If you're only now certain for prosecution after 4 years of ambivalence, bring back Mueller for a sequel, but give him only 6 months and full authority this time. It's all pretty much a long continuation of that, why he was impeached, and Trump's latest coup de grace.
I don't think I expressed myself well. Trump has always had it coming. But once Biden won, there was this question about whether Biden should pursue justice or if it would be too fractious to national unity and too distracting to his Administration to do so. The arguments for just moving on -- avoid the Republican blowback, avoid vindictive impeachments or counter-indictments, free up Senate time for confirming appointments and moving legislation -- are strong. But, you're right that the insurrection is just a culmination of what Trump has been doing all along. A legal and political reckoning is necessary.
Good thing here is Biden doesn't have do anything, and it should be that way both politically and as the right thing to do. New admin shouldn't be investigating old admin - that's for law enforcement to do. Congress should quickly get impeachment #2 over. Congress doesn't need to do an investigation into the coup attempt -- it's already being handled by prosecutors. Congress is free to "move on" and let real and extensive level of law enforcements handle the Trump's coup investigation and prosecution. The State AGs will also be busy. Trump and his supporters fear of the "deep state" of these law enforcements and security agencies is coming to fruition.
I’ve gone through the same thought process and reached the same conclusion. we know republicans will condemn the “divisiveness” and call for unity, and to be fire, a lot of the voting public is tired of the over the top political contentiousness that has existed since the 2016 Republican primaries. BUT, that’s why it is critically important that there be bi partisan support for impeachment and bi partisan vote in favor of conviction, regardless of final outcome. Likewise, it is critical that the investigation into the insurrection be fulsome, including a timeline of trumps actions after the breach occurred. They need testimony and evidence that trump delighted in the mob, cheered the invaders and was loathe to call in the national guard, and ultimately pence had to handle it. That is the type of evidence that will get people up in arms and will not be forgotten when it comes time to vote. The moderates, the educated suburban voters will be able to see all that as evidence that this is not just political revenge.
Bring back Mueller? Did you see him in the hearing? I think the biggest mistake was appointing Mueller in the 1st place, probably should have had someone who was not as opposed to ruffling feathers and had the energy to fight the stalling tactics.
Is there anyone who does not think President Trump is clinically insane? He lives in a completely delusional world.
Yes, you give him a chance to repudiate his report to the other half of the nation who thinks it's fake news and make whole what Trump/Barr/Ass. took away.
