The Wall Street Journal analyzed hours of video and audio from the Capitol riot to better understand how a mob of thousands overran police and attacked the U.S. Capitol.

thank you for this - although I really wish it would have addressed the videos of police opening the barricades and walking with the people inside the capital. My take on that is that the police were overwhelmed and gave up in favor of retreating for their own safety, though some say it shows that the police were helping the rioters gain access because they supported them.

I still vividly remember my visit to DC a few years ago. The locals might not appreciate it as much since they're knee deep in what goes on the daily, but it's always something to see all the buildings there in all its splendor. The Supreme Court Building makes you feel so small.

They also have networks of underground tunnels, which made me wonder why it would take so long to secure members of congress outside the building. Makes me think they didn't have full control of the situation or ongoing awareness inside those tunnels.

    What a ****ing disaster.

Anyone who minimizes this probably doing it to minimize their own guilt of some form.

The police were out numbered for sure and completely unprepared to handle a crowd of that size. I think what they did was reasonable give the circumstance. We should blame the people that refuse to provide them with backup knowing full well this could happen.

Ok, the nutjobs may have numbered more than the few dozen I thought. Let's call the core, radical instigators 200-400. The rest were opportunists. You know, that guy who gets a sucker punch in when someone else gets jumped.

a few points, based just on this video; the video sort of glosses over the fact that the Elipse, where Trump gave his speech is ~1.5 miles from the capitol building. the crowd at the speech was much larger, maybe several (tens?) thousand. the crowd on the capitol building, was several hundred (again, based on my impression from viewing the video). the number of folks inside would be smaller still (albeit, still significant). the rotunda, where you can see much pushing and shoving, is a pretty small space and would be packed with just a few hundred people (including police).

there seems to have been almost 90 minutes worth of fighting on the capitol steps, with little to no back up. were they called before the police declared "broken arrow" or did the forces on hand thing they had it under control? in any event, the cops on the scene were let down by whoever was supposed to support them.

They should have started shooting when the policeman was dragged into the crowd.

Trump must go to jail for this. In fact, it is a scandal that he is still walking around freely. And any Republican in the House who doesn't vote to impeach is guilty.

...what he's saying is that ANTEEEFER or BLM got to the capitol first, and planted those homemade bombs to make it look like the "protestors" were not, in fact, attempting to usurp the authority of the government and install an illegitimate president of this country through violent means...as the barely legitimate president and many of his hive-minded drones incessantly urged and encouraged them to do, for weeks and even months on end prior.

We'll see. The truth will come out. Just like when Mr. Pillow makes his explosive, eleventh-hour, earth-shaking discovery of the stolen election that caused all this.

We're all gonna be REAL sorry when the truth finally comes out.

...(sorry we entertain this drivel, I hope)...;)

Exactly. Antifa could have disrupted Trump's speech or Giuliani's speech but instead decided to disrupt Mike Pence declaring Joe Biden the duly elected President. It makes so much sense.

We have video and photographs of the people that broke into the Capitol. Many of them have been identified and captured. They all are right wing. We have leaders of right wing groups identified outside the Capitol.

We have leaders of right wing groups claiming they organized the March and protest and were aided by four extremist Republican congressmen.

We have social media and chat room comments discussing the event before hand. We have Giuliani calling the wrong representative asking them to “stall the vote.”

We have right wing Trump supporters arrested with a trove of weapons a block from the Capitol.

What the hell else do you need?

Your take is wrong. Retreating requires you move away from the rioters, keeping as much distance as possible if you fear for your safety. If you are opening barricades, walking among them and taking selfies, then you are actively supporting them and have no fear for your safety.
