How did they get Covid from this if they were wearing masks? I guess they weren't wearing medical masks?

Seems like a big assumption that they got it there, if the Republicans themselves have not tested positive?

It's everywhere right now, isn't it?

Wearing a mask doesn't prevent you from getting the virus but decreases the chance you spread it to others. If you are in a small, unvented space with people not wearing masks your odds of infection go way up.

While those Repugs deserve to be blamed because what they did was a purposeful dickish move, I would say just the sheer volume of goons maskless storming the facility likely led to the air circulation system aerosolizing the virus through the capital. Every time they step foot in that building now they should probably be using the same type of sanitation and protection protocols that a doctor working a Covid icu unit would in order to prevent being exposed. Even a cautious person like Jayapal wouldn’t be going to that level of protection.

So yea the Repugs deserve shaming but knowing how I got it myself leads me to believe the aerosol in the ac system theory is more likely the culprit and id expect a whole slew of Congressional members to test positive in the next 48 hours causing another crisis in government as if we needed another.

exactly. It was a super-spreader event via the overwhelming statistical odds that anti-mask throngs from all over our infected country stormed the capitol screaming and launching Aerosol-o-Rama.

To be accurate, ATW is in Germany, and they probably have N95 masks over there. ;-)

I know the basics perfectly well (also, I am not in America). What I'm saying is that it appears that the stated conclusion that "it must have come from being locked in with maskless Republicans" seems more politically motivated than necessarily by real facts. I am not anti-mask at all. Just saying that if she had had a FFP2 mask, she should have been relatively protected.

She is right to criticize them for not wearing masks, but she isn't necessarily right in jumping to the conclusion that that's how she picked it up, especially if none of them has tested positive.

There was a republican house representative that tested positive prior to joint session and he likely interacted with other Republican members prior to the vote. It's likely there were a few individuals had already contracted the virus and just didn't know it. It was really selfish of republican members to not be safe, but such is life with those assholes.

Your questioning of them being infected despite wearing masks is the problem. Relative protection does not stop infection, with effectiveness of the mask dropping under continued exposure in an enclosed space. This would be the basics.

While the conclusion that they were infected by maskless republicans may turn out to be false, it is not illogical given that people that were not wearing masks would have been more effective spreaders than people that wore masks. Same people are also more likely to have been infected prior.

Until the republicans are proven to not have been infected prior, they are the most likely culptrits.

Kind of a pointless argument you are making. You don't know whom else she might have been exposed to. Could have been on a plane, the airport, etc. etc. - we just don't know. Much like when you said that I don't know the basics, you are jumping to conclusions. Rest assured that I know a lot more about this topic than you do.

Repug voters really know how to pick their shitstains

No doubt about that. They should be wearing masks and it's pure telegraphing to her intended audience that Repugs are not only a national security blight but also a public safety nightmare.

Anyways, I'd rather have the benefits of reducing chances of infection closer towards magnitudes of 0 rather than the 95% of just one mask when not everyone complies with mask wearing.

    One mouth breather away...

just curious the politicians who refused to wear masks while in close quarters with others do you think they wear masks when they visit their parents or relatives?

    I don't know.

And I think they are freaking idiots for not wearing the masks. All I said was that we just don't know that that's where she picked it up.

Here comes the stupidity - please dont go down that route.

As to my previous assertion, I stand by it - airlines and most other public facilities require that people wear masks. Until there is clear evidence to the contrary, being in an enclosed space with several non-mask wearers is the most likely source of her infection.

If you have a more probable theory, please lets hear it.

The House should require weekly CV-19 PCR tests of its member, if they want to participate in democracy.

At some point do criminal charges become possible?
