Some PF/C's that are FA's , and can contribute (some obviously more than others)... Kenyon Martin (RFA) Rasheed Wallace (FA) Mehmet Okur (FA) Stomile Swift (RFA) Chris Mihm (RFA) Some other players to note Bob Sura (FA) Jamal Crawford (RFA) Marquis Daniels (FA) Jon Barry (FA) Mike James (FA) Keyon Dooling (FA) Quentin Richardson (RFA) Rafer Alston (FA) Damon Jones (FA) Brevin Knight (FA) DeMarr Johnson (FA) Darius Miles (RFA) Manu Ginobili (FA) Hedo Turkoglu (RFA) Charlie Ward (FA) Brent Barry (FA) Carlos Arroyo (FA) Morris Peterson (RFA)
Sheed would be perfect for us. Detroit is willing to pay big $$, but the playoffs can change anything. Okur would be nice, but I don't see how he is an upgrade from MoT. Okur doesn't rebound that great, rather have MoT. Swift/Mihm could play some backup roles, but we need player with more impact. Marquis Daniels (FA) Damon Jones (FA) Manu Ginobili (FA) Hedo Turkoglu (RFA) Charlie Ward (FA) Brent Barry (FA) Carlos Arroyo (FA) [/QUOTE] I would love to have any of these guys. Daniels looks like a stud, but I wonder how much Dallas wants to keep him. No way Spurs let Manu walk, I wonder how willing they are to keep Hedo. Brent Barry could be a probable, big addition. Signing him would make our guard situation a lot more expendable. SF and Barry would make a nice duo, smarter than a SF/Cat duo. Arroyo Jones, and Ward could be nice backup PGs, Arroyo could even start if needed.
Swift is averaging 8.8ppg and 5.1rpg, I want to get a guy that has more of an impact on offense, defense, and on the boards. I think its his highlights that make him look good, I thought his numbers were better than that.
I think Etan Thomas would be a good fit. He's a big, strong 4 who plays with a lot of energy. I see him as a bigger version of Carlos Boozer.
You forget that Swift plays less than 20mpg, and it's not because Hubie doesn't trust him; it's because Hubie has a 10-man rotation.
if toronto wants to take apart the team and start again, that means dumping contracts. TE for marshall who ever was posting on the toronto board should offer this and see what they say.
I think Donyell Marshall is an interesting prospect as a PF for the Rockets. He has the offense to make people respect him and is a decent defensive player. I think he would be good here. We can't just offer the Trade Exception for him though. We have to combine the T.E. with another player in a trade. Who would you suggest we trade combined with the T.E. that the Raptors would want? Would Cato + part of the T.E. for Marshall and Alvin Williams horrible contract work for you?
Deuce - A HOU pick also works but I don't know why they'd do it. We have a trade exception because we got rid of a player (Rice) who was basically worthless. If TOR really wanted to let go of Marshall, they'd be better of trading him than having an exception. The difference is that we weren't getting anything for Rice (although the die-hard CD haters will tell you should have gotten more while totally ignoring the fact that Utah waived Rice). Marshall on the other hand has value to TOR beyond a TE. Does that make sense?
toronto is looking to clear some cap space and start again. they want to get rid of every one except bosh and maybe carter. Deuce- that trade is acceptable if they could ad maybe their #2 or something to sweeten it little more for us. alvin williams isnt a true PG either. i was whaching a rap's game this year on league pass when the comentator said something like "see how much better bosh has been playing since he has had a true PG join the team" this was refering to the signing of rod strickland.
How does a team clear cap space when the CBA requires you to take back 85% of what you send out? Only one way...turn long expensive contracts into shorter expiring ones. The Raptors have Jalen Rose making $14m and Carter making $12m (both long-term) and the rest of the team making the other half of a $51m payroll. Our TE would help this but we sure don't want Jalen Rose.
GATER- lets say we trade pike and the TE for marshall and williams, it would work under the CBA and they would be clearing cap space. i do agree that we dont want rose, but moving rose wont be a problem, he is good enough that someone will take him if the are willing to give him away. however, losing williams contract may be enough incentive to move marshall too.
Backup PG's are practically free, PF is not. Damon Jones should be available this summer, that would be good. Mike Wilks may have learned a thing or two, Kevin Ollie should be there too. Antonio Daniels, Rafer Alston. Backup PG is just not something you should trade an asset for. Starting PF is a big deal, but I would keep Cato as the backup 4 and 5, this team needs him playing around 30 minutes every night. His energy, defense, rebounding and shotblocking is tremendous. I would try really hard to go after Nick van Exel and Antonio McDyess as FA's. They both LOVE Houston, have homes here, are best buds, are FA's, and can take this team to the top. More importantly, we don't need to trade for them. Yao/Cato McDyess/Cato/MoT JJ/Boki/Pike Mobley/Francis/Pike Francis/NVE I think we'd need to get rid of a few people though, cap clearing moves. We need to maybe trade MoT to Boston for some expiring contracts, also probably let the trade exception expire. But I think we'd have enough firepower to go to the fnials anyway.
