How many first round picks could Rockets get with a Harden trade?

    I’m not saying that it would be a wise option, but just for curiosity... based on rumors in the web:

    1) Harden for Simmons,Seth Curry and 2 FRP.

    I bet you could trade Simmons to the Pelicans or Thunder for 6 first round picks without doing all that other stuff.

    A couple of points.

    1) you can't trade a draft pick more than 7 years in the future

    2) you can't be without a 1st round draft pick in 2 consecutive future drafts. It does have to be your own 1st round pick. Conditional picks that may not convey in a particular year don't count.

    Because of those two rules, unless a team has draft picks from another team, then the most you can trade is 4. I.e your first round pick every other year for 7 years.

    In the years where you can't trade your pick, you can provide options to swap positions in the first round of those drafts. Of course that's only useful if the other team ends up being worse than you in those seasons.

    As for a series of trades where you keep trading the player you receive, it's theoretically possible but not likely.

    In all situations, unless you are getting high picks, they just aren't worth that much.

    In the multiteam scenario, no team would be giving more than 2 picks. In the case of Thunder of Pelicans that other user mentioned, they have many many picks from other teams (Thunder can trade more than 10). In any case, this is just for curiosity.

    Yeah, I realized that and already Dded it to my post above.

    As I said, it matters how good the picks are. Low first round picks just aren't that valuable.

    You'd be better off keeping some of the players you are trading in the series. The NBA is s star driven league. Two lesser players don't equal a star.

    Trading Harden for 7 low first round picks would be an incredibly bad deal.
