Though Mashburn talked about retiring, the Hornets will try to trade him. They might even be desperate enough to take Eddie Robinson off the Bulls' hands and even expand a deal to include Jerome Williams.

But the belief is (Grant Hill) won't have Tracy McGrady to join him. The word around the NBA is that McGrady is out of Orlando this summer. The combination of new management, the miserable season and McGrady's refusal to confirm whether he'd stay after next season (when he will be a free agent) has led Magic management to search for a deal. Expect it to be with the Suns, who are under new ownership and looking for a star to fill some seats. And that should work for McGrady, who'll need to assure the team he is sent to he'll sign. He'll do that with the Suns so he can play with Orlando buddy Amare Stoudemire, the big man he never could get with the Magic. It probably would take Shawn Marion, Joe Johnson and a No. 1 pick to get it done. But where were the Suns going with the team they've got?

well that would stink... no need for the suns to get better.

too bad we can't make a sweeter deal than Marion, Johnson, and a #1. You know, since Marion is good, Johnson is good, and their #1 is probably really high.

That would be an interesting deal, probably real good for Orlando. Not bad for the desert dwellers, either.

Shawn Marion and Joe Johnson are both under contract for this next season .... so if the Suns got Tracy McGrady for Marion, Johnson and a #1 draft pick, I think they would still have double-digit millions on the free agent market (correct me if I'm wrong).

It also would be the second time Orlando turns to Phoenix to take a disgruntled and expensive star.

Honestly, that is a pretty good deal for Orlando. Considering Orlando will have a high pick there year, plus the Suns pick which will be top 10, plus Johnson and Marion....that's a pretty good deal.

I am not sure the Rockets could put together a better package than that.

McGrady and Stoudamire would be a nice combo for the future. And they still would have decent cap room.

well... then by all means they should go after Kobe. That would be the best two three four ever assembled.

Then you can just put me and vladmir stepania on that team and it would still be a contender.

But honestly, does anyone expect Kobe to leave LA to go to a team where he still has to share the spotlight? I could see Kobe coexisting with players like Marion and Stoudemire, but not another guy that people are always comparing him to. How many times have you heard the Kobe vs. T-Mac argument?

right, i'm just hypothesizing how nasty that team would be. you know if the Suns pull it off (i.e. get T-Mac and another premier FA with their 10+ Mil)... then their blowing up of their team and totally stinking the crap of it for a season would have been worth it.

Suns would not be able to get Kobe if they completed this trade. Honestly, they don't have enough money now (~ $8 or 9 million) and are trying to dump Eisley or White to get enough under the cap. Completing this deal would set back their efforts, if only a little.

    McGrady $14.5
    Marion & JJ $13.6

I agree that it would be a great deal for both teams, but PHX first has to realize that they aren't a player in the Kobe sweepstakes regardless of cap room. He's staying in LA, the only question is which team.

That deal would be a stunner. I don't know if it's even remotely reliable. Talent-wise, it would be a steal for the Magic. Ticket-wise, it would be awesome at the gate for the Suns.

But I want to get in on THAT deal. I'd take either Marion or T-Mac.

Or Phoenix (check out Kobe's jersey).
    Or Memphis.
Or, frankly, wherever Kobe decides to flee I mean go...He can force a Sign'n'Trade and wind up in NYC or Timbuktu if he so chooses.

There's no way he's going to Memphis. None. Zero.

    1. They have no money other than the MLE with which to sign him, and he's not taking a $10 pay cut.

    2. The Lakers would never, ever trade him to Jerry West.

I don't see Kobe pushing a S&T. He wants to walk and stick it to the Lakers. He'd also look bad, and Kobe's far too wrapped up in living the Jordan image. If he forces a trade, he forces Shaq out of town, and I don't see that happening either.

I'd love to see Boston somehow nab McGrady this summer. That was a painful season for us Bostonianinians. Got a case of Bostonitis. If it weren't for the Sox and Patriots, I'd be insane after the Bruins and the Celts back to back.

If the Bosox haven't made you insane then you probably don't need to worry about acquiring T-Mac.

I respectfully disagree with almost all you say in this Post, including and particularly the "he forces Shaq out of town" comment.
