And of course, we have trump's legal team (underpants dershowitz and turley) defending for trump and against impeachment). There would never be reason to impeach trump or other republican president... all things go in their legal opinion.

Sep 5, 2015 — There is nothing in the Constitution that bars someone from the Presidency because of a felony conviction.

I would agree with the expected health issues though. A grossly obese 74 year old with bad eating and exercise habits exposed to a massive amount of stress... we can only hope.

I think we have to impeach him as a matter of maintaining the Rule Of Law, sedition cannot be tolerated. And I think Congress will after Shumar takes over the Senate. Over the time that that takes, I believe overwhelming evidence of a conspiracy with The Acting Secretary of the Army and high ranking officials in the Capitol Police to under man the policing of the event and delay the National Guard response will be exposed. They did not run this thing like a covert operation. There is going to be an electronic trail Stevie Wonder could follow.

Merrick Garland will be highly motivated !

I remember Watergate was the main story of it's time for 2 years. The investigations, charges and convictions from this event will be the top news story for at least that long. It's a story that is really unimaginable for most Americans and likely to have a cataclysmic effect on American politics. Millions of people are going to have to come to terms with being fools. They will hate the people that made them embarrassed.

This Georgia State University law professor agrees somewhat with turley, but suggests a better impeachment approach... of course Deshowitz and turley would argue against this because its in their financial interest...

There is no healing or unity without impeachment. The disgusting behavior by the president and MAGA must be REPUDIATED! The nation will NEVER heal as long as we allow racists and confederates to continue their actions without consequence.

Will this freshman republican congressman reflect the horror of the events and support impeachment?

Hahahahaha! Sorry, these aren't funny days, but just listen to this fool.

    1. 70+ well-documented years of DJT's very consistent and disturbing behavior for any American, let alone an elected official.
    2. HRC outlining pattern for DJT calling everything he didn't like "rigged."
    3. DJT pends four years trampling norms and encouraging radicalism.
    4. Approaching election, DJT says he won't concede if he loses. Says everything is "rigged."
    5. Loses election and scores of subsequent court cases.
    6. Calls various election officials and state congresspeople in attempts to strong-arm them and overturn election results.
    7. Starts promoting huge "rally" to "stop the steal" on the very day Congress is to certify the election.
    8. *oh the shocking transformation on January 6! Right, Toomey -- the horror began here! Unthinkable(TM)*
    9. Gives inciting speech to his throngs.
    10. Riot on the Capitol.

Who could ever have seen this coming? What you got right about "unthinkable" is that you have been unwilling to think for the last four years and your party has for many more years told their followers not to think.

To me, it's not just about impeachment only. He directly incited murder.

Impeachment vote in the House will just be for show and not remove Trump from office, according to Moscow Mitch.

McConnell memo outlines how Senate would conduct second trial for Trump if House impeaches

On the cusp of the second impeachment battle in just over a year, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is circulating a memo to Republican senators that outlines how a potential Senate trial would work for President Trump — proceedings that would all but certainly occur after he leaves the White House.

In the memo, obtained by The Washington Post, McConnell’s office notes that the Senate will not reconvene for substantive business until Jan. 19, which means the earliest possible date that impeachment trial proceedings can begin in the Senate is the day before President-elect Joe Biden is inaugurated.

Although the Senate will hold two pro forma sessions next week, on Jan. 12 and Jan. 15, it is barred from conducting any kind of business during those days — including “beginning to act on received articles of impeachment from the House” — without agreement from all 100 senators. With a cadre of Trump-allied senators in the Republican conference, that unanimous consent is highly unlikely.

In effect, that makes the matter of an impeachment trial an issue that will need to be taken up by Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), the incoming majority leader, in the first days of the Biden presidency — a move that would almost certainly distract from the president-elect’s immediate agenda to battle the coronavirus pandemic and ensure that his Cabinet nominees get confirmed.

Absent a unanimous agreement before Jan. 19 to formally begin acting on any articles of impeachment, the McConnell memo outlines an expected scenario should the House impeach Trump in the coming days:

●On Jan. 19, the Senate would receive a message from the House that it has appointed impeachment managers, and that the Senate would be ready to receive it.

●On Jan. 19 or 20, the House impeachment managers would exhibit the articles.

On Jan. 20 or 21, the Senate would proceed to consideration of the impeachment articles at 1 p.m., and officially begin the trial. McConnell’s memo noted that the “Senate trial would therefore begin after President Trump’s term has expired — either one hour after its expiration on January 20, or twenty-five hours after its expiration on January 21.”

I don't read that as a threat but more of a situation. Trump is king at playing the victim card and his followers will eat it up.

I want him gone yesterday, but we have to be careful not to strengthen his base. Take away his voice (they have for now) and don't give him anymore ammunition.

My fear is he's plotting his next steps which will most likely be a TrumpNewsMax channel spewing lies which they will eat up and keep this country in disarray for decades. Neither the 25th amendment nor impeachment will do anything but give him more publicity. This is all just the beginning...
