New England promotes Josh McDaniels to HC for a day. Texans trade Deshaun Watson for Josh McDaniels - can't have any unhappy players here, after all. Doesn't fit the culture. NE puts Belichick back in that role. Would be on-brand for the Texans.
Texans have backed themselves into a corner where they can't make a serious move on a HC until they talk to Watson, if and when he decides to. So much for not letting the inmates run the jail right?
Ineptitude at the top is evident. Cal shouldn’t have his hands anywhere near the hiring process. Hire a smart team president that oversees the football aspects. I also have no problem with them wanting to choose people based on their principles, hell some of the players are more overly religious than preacher boy. Including Deshaun. I also don’t think players, any player should have say over a hire. They can be included in the process but a player should not have control over a team. The whole situation is a mess.
Yes solid and I don't want to totally discredit what they did on the defense but the injuries were a little overstated. They still had good talent for most of the season. For example: Up front: Arik Armstead was a 1st round pick and he played all but one game Kinlaw was a 1st round pick and played 14 games Secondary: Jimmy ward was a 1st round pick and played all but one game Jason Verrett was a 1st round pick and played 13 games Richard Sherman for about half the season LB: Fred Warner played the whole season
Are there coaches out there who've had success without good players? How much of the "having good defensive players" is that these coaches put the players in positions to succeed?
The problem would still be that Cal would have to make that hire. Who has confidence that Cal wouldn't screw that decision up either?
