25th Amendment, Section 4: Declaration by vice president and principal officers

Yeah the 25th is the ideal lifeline for Republicans. But Pence seriously might be scared for his life if he does it. Trump already threw him under the bus and if Pence invokes the 25th, you know the MAGA crowd will be calling for his head.

This only works if most of the Republican Party backs up Pence (or if they vote to remove Trump from office) but judging by the fact that a majority of the Republican caucus in the House still voted to object to the electoral college slates in at least one state, I don't have much faith in the Republicans.

The Republicans are caught in a serious bind right now. The only way they win elections now is ramping up turnout with the MAGA crowd. As the suburbs keep shifting leftwards, Republicans will be more and more reliant on rural voters which will only magnify the need to placate Trumpism. Basically the Republicans would have to reject MAGA politics, lose a few election cycles (since the suburbs won't come back overnight) and then slowly rebuild. But no one is going to be willing to do something like that so they'll just YOLO and keep feeding the MAGA crowd.

Pelosi calling for 25th Amendment and, failing that, impeachment strikes me as a move designed to get Republicans on the record taking a side.

First, make Pence and the cabinet members take a side on whether they think what Trump is doing is OK.
Then, get the congressional Republicans to take votes.

 

That ship has sailed.

 

As I mentioned, I follow Ric Grenell on social media. Even a week before all this happened, that same crowd was commenting under his posts that Pence "had been bought by them" and so on. Like with everyone, Trump turns against anyone if they don't follow everything he says, and he will not hesitate to incite hate against people, no matter how loyal they were to him before.
