Love the hire....the context of it looks really bad I agree. But we absolutely nailed this hire. Respected universally as a great football mind. Wonder what the response would have been if we hired him on our last attempt? Would it have been as bad?
Interesting dynamic that was mentioned on 610 yesterday afternoon. It's a bit tin foil hat type stuff but it makes some sense. It all but appears that Caserio was the GM target for the Texans and the search was just a show for us fans to feel like they were doing it the right way. Highly likely that if this was the case that Caserio also knew this. Hell maybe through some backdoor meetings he had already met with the Texans brass, it's happened before right? Well who did Caserio also interview with the same day he met with the Texans? The Carolina Panthers. Whose offensive coordinator did we just interview and then had nothing but glowing things to say afterwards? The Carolina Panthers. What are the odds that Caserio took the Panthers interview to gain more intel on the coaching candidate that his buddy Easterby really likes? Idk, but seems as good of a theory as any. TL;DR Caserio knew he was getting the job in Houston. Took the Panthers interview to gain intel on one of the Texans top HC candidates, Joe Brady.
I happened to hear that on the radio at that exact moment. And I think it’s something to it especially with the lengthy contract Caserio received.
Poor optics all around..... He's had success drafting players in the midrounds and putting together a good team but how much of that is Belichick?
Caserio would have been considered a homerun hire the first time. And the hire in itself is still being touted by a lot of national analysts. The optics problem is and will continue to be Easterby.
So you're saying Caserio played the role of Voodoo and went to Smash, I mean Joe Brady and told him "You're the only guy on this team worth a damn. Easterby will set you up real nice. My mom got a new house."
Not Josh McDaniels. Picking someone outside of the "Patriot" scope would be very agreeable. Eberflus is kind of in that scope - but I'd take him. Essentially, I want to see him hire someone who is going to be an infrastructure for offense & defense that he trusts and allows him to focus on being a head coach.
The stain of BOB is going to dirty this franchise for a long, loooooong time. I favored one of the "hot" names - but, objectively, none of them had anything close to Caserio's resume. Most of them have built nice teams, etc - but Caserio has six SB rings! NOW! I FULLY realize those rings come with A LOT of question marks. I'm just saying that if Caserio is the real deal, it'll likely be a terrific hire. Here's hoping...
I feel so sad for all of you guys who are doing the "fan" thing and trying to convince yourself this was a good hire. Sweet, SWEET summer children. Im in my 40s man .. I could be doing better things with my Sundays. This is masochism.
