Most people on this site will agree that we will draft at least one player, sign at least one free agent, and more than likely trade for at least one player. Questions for Heyp'sArseKissingTeam 1) How many centers are going to be on the team? 2) If we get rid of one of our centers via trade then what do we get in return? For example: If we trade Cato or Collier to another team what do we get in return. Would you guess another center or a small forward? If we were to get another center in a Cato type deal, would we still draft another center? Hmmm 3)If we keep Mo, will we resign Dream? If we resign dream will we draft another center or small forward? 4)If we sign Webber will we draft a center or a small forward? If we do a sign and trade for Webber, what do we do with the remaining salary cap space.(I guess sign our remaining free agents) I guess we would have at least one of the draft picks, will we draft a small forward or center? ------------------ Fuggetabout it [This message has been edited by bigboymumu (edited June 22, 2001).]
bbmumu, 1) three, if you want to call collier a center. in total, i think it'll be collier, cato, and whomever we draft. truth be told, collier is a 4/5. 2) i don't think we'll trade cato. and if we did, it would be for an albatross, like mitch richmond (2 guard), etc. i really think the small forward spot will be manned by walt & langhi to start the season. that, OR you might see francis at the 2 with cat at the 3. and, if we did get another center in the cato deal (which i don't see, honestly), yes, we'd still draft one. whatever center we got back in the trade would more than likely be garbage. 3) no, hakeem's gone. and yes, we'll draft a center, still. 4) center. bottom line is that dream is, more than likely, gone. if he does stay, we'll still need to look for a center. as a matter of fact, we'd all love for him to stay to TUTOR someone (Achebe, where are you???). you want to go for a franchise center, if one is EVER available. even if you have one (ralph sampson 84, david robinson 98), if another is available, you go for him. it's an unwritten rule. you take the franchise big man/men, and sort the details later.
keep in mind that rudy said he wanted to attack the zone, implying offensively. what are we looking at? tall shooters (langhi, collier), big bodies in the paint on defense (curry/diop/brown), and nimble, high-octane guards (cat, steve, mooch). why keep dream (who's on his last legs) and cato (who has no legs or balls to speak of) and collier (4/5, really) and draft a small forward (which are almost always available in drafts), when you can drop three or four picks (which you didn't plan on using anyway) and go for a franchise center? it's only logical to go for the big man, if he's available.
And I'm not saying we won't draft a small forward. I'm just saying that Langhi will see playing time before said draftee. ------------------ Beware the blank post! Ain't Miss Be haven!

1) Three, but I won't guess at whether one is Cato or Olajuwon -- I don't think we'll have both next season, though we might not have either. 2) If we do trade Cato, we won't get a center worth talking about in return. Nor will it be a 'potential' guy. I'm guessing it'll be a package of scrubs highlighted by a backup SG or SF. 3) Keeping Dream will not affect our draft, I don't think. If we do re-sign Mo (and not Webber) I think we'll have Dream back. 4) I don't think Webber will affect our draft either. If we have any cap-space left, I think we'll offer it to Mo. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
I believe we will have a new center. However, I believe as probably you do also that the draft is not the only decision the Rockets are contemplating. The Rockets will not draft a center and trade for a center. Somewhere in the decision making process a small forward is being discussed. Drafting a center is not the only move we make. What else improves the Rockets? A small forward! ------------------ Fuggetabout it
BBMM, I think you're right. The Rockets won't use all the cap and all the draft picks on centers and PFs. I see the rockets adding three to four players, one for each frontcourt position and one extra big man if there is cap room for it. BTW, I'd like the rockets to add a top center in the draft over getting an immediate impact at the SF. ------------------
The high school centers will not help the Rockets improve, at least not this year. Which would you choose? Franchise Cat Griffen, White, Radman, Johnson, or Gasol Webber or Mo Olajuwon or Cato or Trade or Franchise Cat Langhi Webber or Mo HS Center or Franchise Cat Langhi Brown or other HSer Cato or Olajuwon I would pick the first! ------------------ Fuggetabout it
Brown.....He plays big enough to play center. He could become a Dikembe like presence on Defense very early in a zone. He looked more refined on defense than Mihm as a senior, but they were only high schoolers. I still think the rocks get an improvement over Walt somehow, but I can't take the thought of Kenny against Shaq again. Where's Tanya bodyguard at when you need him? I haven't seen the other two as much. Curry didn't jump out in the five minutes I saw him play. And I go three guard before Langhi starts. ------------------
1. ...2 true centers, and maybe 1 2. ...high pick. 3. ...no..yes. 4. ...both if possible, if not center only., contingent on high pick of course! ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?
