They didn't plan for Trump to encourage his supporters to storm the Capitol. I'm sure they imagined some fluffy little Mr. Smith goes to Washington speech moment for today they could run on and delaying the process and trying to reunite the GOP the next 4 years but I don't see how that happens now. It'll be interesting to see where they go from here definitely.
That entire area of the capital for blocks around, the grounds, and the entire interior of the great building is covered by sophisticated video cameras. A very large number of the thousands of people there are going to end up getting arrested, charged, brought to trial, and if they broke the law, and plenty of them did, find themselves behind bars.
