We've known all along that there are white supremacists in the police force, but this needs to be investigated from the top down. There's no way in hell that Capitol building should've been breachable.

 

There's no reasoning with people that are under a spell. Your dad's not a Republican anymore. Nothing about what's happening today and nothing about the Trump presidency has had anything to do with conservatism or Republicanism. It's a cult of personality with emphasis on "cult."

My father and a brother are lifelong Republicans who voted for Trump both times. It used to put a real strain on my relationships with each of them when we talked about politics, but I realized it wasn't worth it because they were never going to change. No cult member is capable of changing their minds.

I dont think you are acknowledging how open the capitol building is. It's frankly one of the most open national capitol complexes in the world. Very few countries give this kind of access. It has a littany of doors and relatively little security. Frankly, I always loved that about the US Capitol.

The problem was that there was no National Guard deployment and because DC isn't a state, the president technically has full authority over the national guard there. The only police presence was the Capitol Police which just isn't enough. And frankly, the Capitol Police is just security theater (like the TSA).

I think the thought was that they didn't want to overmilitarize to avoid provoking protestors into violence but clearly that made no difference and they were better off with a deployment (but Trump wouldve never agreed to that).
