Since I'm not buying league pass this year, I've seen almost zero Rockets ball so far this season... But still, it's difficult to imagine a guy that puts up 11 rpg and blocks two and a half shots every game with his athleticism and wingspan is our problem defensively. Is Wood really that bad? Or is he just an easy scapegoat for some reason?
When a player that averages 32% from 3 goes off for 30 points and 80% from 3 then DEFENSE is the problem.
Yeah its time to stick a fork in the switch D. Its dumb AF just like microball. Switch D only made sense cuz we had PJ Tucker, Green and RoCo all the same size. Now we got traditional big men again just play normal defense. It aint hard Thibs and KG already showed the blue print defend the 3 pt line, funnel the slashers to the center and then leave the mid range wide open so opponents will keep taking the worst shot in bball.
Who? Something's wrong with Dubose's scouting report. Hardaway Junior is a 35.5% career 3 point shooter who shot 39.8% last season and in the bubble. I think THJ is the only guy shooting that much last game.
Your coaches were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
Yeah, wasn't aware of this hot and cold outing. (angle) And Luka shot 9% in his first 3 games I suppose which tells you this season is young and anything can happen. It's different when a professional reporter is skewing things because of small sample size, even if he was being sarcastic.
As pointed out a few posters here already, the Rockets are just five games in, short preseason, key players missing early for various reasons, a lot of new players, a new coach and implementing a different approach. As the coach is working on, the Rockets have to move the ball and be able to score in multiple ways which of course means that they will have to do very slight adjustments depending on who the Rockets are match up against on a given night. All being well, the lack of ball movement, dealing with a sudden double team with less than 10 seconds on the shot clock, transition defense, communication and boxing out are stuff that the coaches and team will fix with more practice and games. It is nice to see for stretches in the last two games the Rockets are starting to have some lock down defense where the other team struggles to score for several minutes, now it is just a matter of consistency. There is one problem the Rockets have that will need an additional player. Teams like Denver, Dallas, Lakers, Portland, Clippers, New Orleans and Utah can use bigger line ups, which is problematic if for some reason Cousins is not on the floor for a decent amount of time. The Rockets need a third big either with length, size or both that can play spot minutes when needed. No one expects to find any big impact players in free agency right now but their players who can minimize something some of these teams will exploit in a very competitive Western Conference. Just throwing out a few names, not sure how well they will fit or not, Skal Labissiere, Taj Gibson and Kyle O'Quinn. I am sure you guys on the GARM can think of others.
If I were to sum up some of the major themes from yesterday: 1) not enough shooting 2) not enough rebounding Nwaba played 29 minutes. Gordon played 25. Split should have been more like 20/34. The rebounding issue is more than just a minutes allocation thing. We need better rebounders on this team.
