Basically the entire roster other than Watson, Tunsil, Watt and Howard should be turned over. Watt needs to be restructured. Devlin should be fired today and when the new coach comes in hopefully the rest of the staff is gone too. As we saw there were a lot of very close boneheaded losses. Watson by himself is worth 8-8 next year with an easier schedule. The run game and defense have to improve because they damn sure can’t get worse. If you trade a player for a pick does that remove all the dead money? I’d try trading guys like Mercilus, Cobb, Fulton, Martin, Murray, Johnson, etc for 7th rounders and see if anyone would bite. Doubtful though.
Why does anyone want to keep Watt? 5 sacks for a 17.5 million cap hit. He's been a great player and an ambassador for this city, but his time as an elite player is over. Either trade him or cut him because we cannot afford his cap hit anymore.
Most think he should be traded and play alongside the Watt Brehs. But the love for Watt from the McNairs goes above and beyond. What's the saying, if you love something feed it a burrito bigger than ray rice?
There is zero players other than Watson that this team should not even consider to trade for a bag of chips
His PFF was still extremely good and consistent. He didn't have the sack numbers this year, but he was excellent on qb pressure, and good for tackles for loss. The way he played, if things bounced a little differently, he certainly could have had a few more sacks. He's a valuable player and a lot of teams would want him, especially if he restructured his contract.
The Cap is Covid and it will probably be only $3-$4 million over the cap before cuts. Picks are traded. No reason to whine about them. Not going to change anything.
Cap suckitude is relative to other teams - the other terrible teams have way more cap space to improve. Picks being traded was an example of f-ing up really bad. No reason to endlessly defend a incompetent franchise. It's not going to change anything. Yet you spend a lot of time doing it. I understand you're too invested in having defended all these failures for years that you have to try to keep justifying it, but it just continually reminds everyone how wrong you've repeatedly been and how bad you are at internet GMing.
You can whine about it.....or move on a fix it. 2022...the Texans won't have any cap issues. 2021 can be salvaged with the right GM and Coach....with them making smart personnel decision. The one thing O'Brien did right was not sacrifice 2022.
Do not draft anymore mfers that play 2 positions... Obrien made me sick with that ****...If you want a guard , draft one.. Not a mfer that's a tackle and he may can play guard...
2022 they only have 29 million in capspace. O'Brien decided to pay guys like Tunsil ($18M), Mercilus (12.7M), Cooks (12M), Roby (9.5M), McKinney (8.8M), Cobb (7.8M), and Martin ( 7.8M) at the same time trading a lot of high picks that could have been quality players for cheap. That's a lot of money for a lot of mediocrity. In 2023 they have 119 million, but that's 2nd worst in the league, and half the league has over $250 million in capspace for 2023. The ne GM will make moves to fix it, but that will involve cuts/trades and we'll get worse initially.
Again...the Cap is in-FLUX. It is based on Revenues....and no one knows what will happen with Covid. You are trying to project the cap 2 years from now....when you don't know what players need to be signed by other teams and what they will do in FA. Calm down. Geez. I assure you teams won't have 250 million in cap space....lol.
It's not about what the cap level is, it's that the Texans already have committed a lot more in salary than other teams have... And we suck. Of course we can get rid of several of these players, but will take a couple years at least. Whitney for example doesn't save any capspace by getting cut this off-season
