The hate came for 2 reasons.

    1. The team fell off since that amazing 2017-18 season and fans needed a scapegoat. Fans chose Tilman since the team coincidentally fell off since he got there. (It would have happened even if Les was still the owner).

    2. His politics. When people found out he supported Trump, they turned the negativity up to 10.

    Good post... well thought out...
but as others have listed it has bee a myriad of cost cutting moves that have repeatedly cost us draft picks and limited our ability to have assets such as expiring contracts to utilize in trades...
I think most of Tilmans moves have been sensible from a financial standpoint - but not what you wanna see when you have a genuine window for a championship...

and if he's gonna go that route... its his team... but dont be running yer jaws constantly saying things like "whatever it takes..."

    imo...

Wouldn't surprise me if Tillman is using Rockets money to float his restaurant business

Its not like Alexander gave Morey free reign to go over the tax either right? In a lot of ways Alxender did some things that were purely $$$ like pandering to China (China style unis), prefering to make the playoffs as 8th seed over tanking for picks and even picking Dumbtoni over Joerger cuz the up and down PHX style offense was more fun to watch.

Dantoni was a good coach for us. Just because Les Alexander wasnt awesome, doesnt mean Tillman isnit trash.

Whether someone is good or bad would depend on their peers no? At the end of the day its their team and their money. You can whine why we dont have Cuban as owner but not every franchise can have a super billionaire who doesnt care about costs. The owner chooses the franchise not the other way round.

The whole premise of this thread isnt to say Fertits is the goat owner or say he isnt bad, but that CF is exaggerating and he isnt THAT bad. I believe that to be the case and compared to his peers he really isnt that bad. At least he has never sold picks for cash like Sarver has done and he has hire competent people unlike Dolan.

He's trash. It's not him just being cheap, it's many things. You arent changing my mind nor am I seeing a substantial argument from you, we are done here.

We were only offering a low amount because Morey was being forced to stay under the tax. We had Ariza's bird rights and could have paid him whatever we wanted to if Tilman went into the LT, which as usual he didn't want to do. We were forced to play basically a glorified 6 man rotation ( with our top 4 playing 40 minutes) against the Warriors in 2019. Ariza would have made a huge difference in that series, hell any decent player would have if Morey had been allowed to go even a little over the LT.

We were well over the regular tax line like most teams. Adding players through cap space never happens, so Ariza's salary whether 1 million or 20 million played no role in our ability to add talent aside from the owner wanting to pocket money during a title window.

The Westbrook debacle came well after Tilman's first wave of cheap moves. But even the Westbrook trade offered another window into his cheapness. Morey desperately needed tradeable contracts and we could have taken one on with Westbrook, and chose not to do so.

Again, if he cuts this many corners during a title window, why would anybody think he isn't gonna be doing that and constantly hampering our GM forever.

I do think it's concerning that your GM, HC, and star player left or want to leave within a span of 3 seasons of taking over. If it's a simple case of cheapness such as with Les, then Morey would have bolted to Philly back when they were courting him years ago.

Let's not say things we can't take back. I don't even believe Tilman is currently the worst Houstons owner. That's still the Mcnair family continuing with their two decades of ineptness and mediocrity.

The first reaction I had to this was "no way. This guy's an idiot" but then I thought more about it and it's almost a coin flip, which is to say Tilman is as bad as the worst owner in the NBA after only owning the Rockets for a few years.

On one hand you have an owner who don't have an issue spending money but can't stop meddling or can't stop hiring the wrong people. On the other hand you have an owner who appears to have hired smart people but appears to put a spending constraint on the team, preventing them from competing.

    It's like "pick your poison"

Some other posts have made this point with more support, but most owners are pretty serious about avoiding the tax for the most part and definitely not dipping into the repeater. Tilman hasn't been that abnormal solely in that respect. Freely spending but running your team like a moron is much, much worse than having cost constraints in the NBA (MLB is a bit different). And on the cost constraint side nothing we've done under Tilman is remotely close to Sarver with the mid 2000s Suns or OKC trading Harden when they did to avoid slightly dipping into the tax.

We had a pretty bad streak of what seemed like Knicks and Sarver likes moves with making the terrible trade to get Russ, Morey leaving and taking another job, and then the series of trades with RoCo and Ariza that looked like straight up egregious salary dumps.

BUT, we got Wood and some first rounders for RoCo and to do it, had to effectively pick up some of Ariza's salary on the way out and possibly had to pay Wood more than what had been pre-agreed. On the latter Dolan is willing to spend but he could also have gotten angry at the deal changing and walked over it.

As long as Tilman hires people like Stone, they are willing to work for him, and he doesn't overrule them on major basketball decisions we'll be fine.

The thread has evolved quite a bit already, but it would’ve been nice to of had a poll. As always the more vocal members are expressing their opinion, but I wonder what the overall consensus would be if the lurkers have a voice...

I personally think Tillman’s ego really wants to win a championship, but the reality is that he doesn’t have the stacks to back him up!

Maybe we should set up a Go Fund Me page for Fertitta! o_O

Hey. At least Tilman consults with his top players on a coaching hire. Lol.
