House, Clemons and a pick (hopefully a 2nd or the Detroit frp) for Nerlens Noel makes too much sense. It would also open up a roster spot for Gerald Green. Alternatively they could cut Bruno and sign Dedmon. Then trade Clemons to open a spot for Gerald. They desperately need another big that they can count on.
While defense will obviously be important going forward, keep in mind we just held a good offensive team under 100 pts and played great defense in the 2nd half. I think the "wood is a bad defender" crowd is going a little overboard as well as the "Silas doesn't know defense" crowd. Let's give this team some time to adjust at FULL STRENGTH to new coaches/new system/crazy tumultuous short training camp/etc. I have seen good things from Wood and good things from the team on defense. Obviously could use an athletic backup 5 that can rebound and defend the paint for 15-20 minutes especially on nights when Boogie sits. Couldn't even take Boogie's minutes, but I think he will be too valuable as an extra dynamic force off the bench once he gets his legs underneath and understands his role better. We have literally played 1 game where most of our major players were available which was on New Year's Eve. Keep in mind, we do have several versatile players that will allow us to go small but still play solid D with effort and hustle with guys like Nwaba, Tate, Brown, House and Tucker. Not saying to play those guys at the same time at all but their versatility and ability to guard multiple positions is invaluable to this team. We do need more consistent height as a SF/PF hybrid or a backup 5 but there is plenty of time left till the trade deadline so let's just give Silas and the team a chance to see if he can get this team together. The rest of the league doesn't look too scary to me at the moment either.
We need a young veteran who can defend, rebound and hit an open shot at the 5/4, to complement Wood. Randle is not a defender.
agree. What you described is a need. Eric Gordon is a luxury. Keep Tucker. He can be a 3 defensively, and continue to play his role offensively. Find a 4 that has a more reliable offensive game than House and provides more defense and rebounding...that should be the goal. If you find that PF, then find a way to make the bench offense work with McLemore and Cousins. Honestly, that’s what most teams do. Even most playoff teams don’t have an EGo...just a bunch of role players to go well with their stars.
Would seem to be a decent trade for both teams. Can't happen until Feb. 6th which is only a month away.
Bamba is obviously the back up as long as Vucevic is there and he appears to have possibly lost that spot to Khem Birch. Bamba is on the back end of his rookie deal and his salary is escalating. As for Gordon, he is the highest paid player at a position where the Magic have several viable options. Essentially, they ease some of the logjam at PF by adding two wings in Gordon and House. They also get out from under Gordon's salary and avoid investing more in Bamba who doesnt seem to be a fit or in their long term plans. And they get a pick out of the deal.
Until Eric Gordon stays healthy and plays well he has negative value. Leaving him out makes the trade more realistic but you have to include for salary reasons...
No. Can't reacquire Covington for one full calendar year after trading him, UNLESS he is traded again first.
A trade that could make sense is if we package D house with Clemons ( not guaranteed next year ) along with a pick or two to SAC for Richaun Holmes. I think he is a FA to be .. is SAC willing to pay up to keep him. We have to see how he looks , but i'd rather have the frontcourt depth than House and maybe we can develop him better than SAC. Especially if he isnt playing much or Bagley starts playing very well. There are a few other trades we could make , but that one seems like something SAC might actually consider. We basically have about 4-6.5 mil we can bring back if we wanna package house and or maclemore and clemons. WE can sign green later in the season too. We need depth at the 4/5 way more than the 2/3 like house brings. Tate , Ben , David , Brown ... all those guys can play House's role. We need a guy who is decent on defense and can rim run on offense. Holmes is having a classic contract year . If we think he can actually be good he could be a decent compliment to wood in the future . His FT shooting is at least improving. I have no idea how good Holmes is on D . Give it 10-15 to stay on the radar . I think the rockets are gonna have to poach. And poach kinda small fish , but bigs get paid. We gotta find a team that will take pick(s) plus Danuel House Cheap upside as 3 and D piece. He could be the type of guy to have a contract year too . Thats unless we wanna trade a real piece.I think we need more games to see for sure, but ... PJ and Eric look pretty good. We have a bit more help for PJ from the get go and SIlas isnt crazy about playing him 37 mpg. SIlas gave Bruno 2 good opportunities early and he sucked. We will prolly give him a couple more here or there , but im not confident. We've been forced to play small with tate and brown and nwaba more often than not. Part of that was wall and gordon out too. But with maclemore coming back and green possibly looming. Moving House makes tons of sense. Just need someone better than bruno. Can package CC or Ben , but ben is a potential x factor is you keep him. Prolly negotiate for giving up picks or ben. What can a 1st and a 2nd buy us ? 2 1sts and a 2nd ? Much easier to go for this move if you get buy in from james. I feel like things will be quiet on the trade front for 2-3 weeks. . James noise could be persistent. If james buys in we could look so good with this kind of move.
Eric Gordon for Richaun Holmes and Cory Joseph would work salary wise. Joseph's contract isn't great but not horrible I guess(much better than Gordon's). Could be the backup point guard we sorely need and has less years left on the cap than Gordon. I'm not sure if its worth giving up EG for but its not the worst trade
