For starters, need at least 2 top 20 players in the game plus a 9 man rotation

Have you considered it's a combination?

    Team with a superstar/s.
    Good chemistry.
    Commitment.
That can play vs various different types of teams.
    No serious injuries.

To win a championship in the last decade , you either have Lebron or beat Lebron with multiple HOFers. He's been in the finals 9 of the last 10 seasons.

In the last decade , how many teams won championships ?

    4 teams with Lebron.

Dallas with Dirk playing out of his mind. Beat Lebron

The Spurs team with at least 4 HOFers on it. Beat Lebron

Three by the Warriors dynasty that included at least 3 and maybe a 4th guy who will be first ballot HOFers. Beat Lebron 3x

Toronto who got lucky to catch that GSW team after major injuries , otherwise they get swept.

    Everything above other than JH.

    He can win one first.

Repeating is more difficult than winning the first one.

Duncan never repeated in his career IIRC.

Look, I appreciate the sentiment, I really do. Ideally it's about team commitment, heart, effort, IQ, buy-in, chemistry, grit, clutchness, etc.

As I said before, everybody who doesn't have multiple superstars hope they can be the 2004 Pistons- beating a Lakers team with Kobe, Shaq, Malone, Payton 4-0 with a fraction of the star power. Honest question: how many times has that happened in the last thirty years? Fifty? 2004 is the only one that comes to mind.

Or those feisty international teams who beat team USA in the olympics now and then.

Perhaps it's an indictment of the sport of basketball that the transcendental power of one or two superstars can trump teams with heart, grit, chemistry, preparation, etc... but unfortunately history has shown it to be true. Perhaps there are other sports that are more "pure" who rely less on singular talent. I don't know.

Harden is a transcendentally great player, historically great. You can combine him with any group of nobodys and he'll drag them into the playoffs and challenge. This is not true of some very highly regarded former MVPs currently playing.

How about all the above . You can win without Lebron , that’s the answer you leave out . Put Lebron swap for Harden on this team ... we win the chip ?

Unless someone of James Harden's calibre is landing our laps, we are not winning a championship in the near future.

This is the correct answer - just add good luck to the list because that’s how Dallas and Toronto got their titles and honestly that’s part of how GS got theirs because somehow their injury prone squad stayed healthy long enough to win several titles before collapsing spectacularly with injuries.
