If people are worried about that then don't impeach Biden. Also if they are worried about Pelosi becoming VP in the event of a Biden death Pelosi is older than Biden.
As if we didn't know it already first week of 2021 is going to be shyteshow. https://thehill.com/homenews/senate...y-will-object-to-electoral-college-results-on 11 Senate Republicans say they will object to Electoral College results Wednesday BY JORDAIN CARNEY - 01/02/21 12:31 PM EST Eleven Senate Republicans on Saturday announced that they will object to the Electoral College results Wednesday, when Congress convenes in a joint session to formally count the vote. GOP Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas), Ron Johnson (Wis.), James Lankford (Okla.), Steve Daines (Mont.), John Kennedy (La.), Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.) and Mike Braun (Ind.) and Sens.-elect Cynthia Lummis (Wyo.), Roger Marshall (Kan.), Bill Hagerty (Tenn.) and Tommy Tuberville (Ala.) said in a joint statement that they will object to the election results until there is a 10-day audit. "Congress should immediately appoint an Electoral Commission, with full investigatory and fact-finding authority, to conduct an emergency 10-day audit of the election returns in the disputed states," they said. "Once completed, individual states would evaluate the Commission’s findings and could convene a special legislative session to certify a change in their vote, if needed. "Accordingly, we intend to vote on Jan. 6 to reject the electors from disputed states as not 'regularly given' and 'lawfully certified' (the statutory requisite), unless and until that emergency 10-day audit is completed," they added. The group's announcement means that at least a dozen GOP senators will object on Wednesday. GOP Sen. Josh Hawley (Mo.) was the first senator to announce he would be joining a band of House conservatives to force a debate and vote on the Electoral College results. Cruz, like Hawley, is considered to be a potential 2024 White House contender. President Trump, who has endorsed efforts to challenge the election results in Congress, has claimed that the election was "rigged" or that there was widespread voter fraud, an assertion that has been rejected in dozens of court cases and by election experts. The objection on Jan. 6 will not change President-elect Joe Biden's win, but it is putting GOP incumbents up for reelection in 2022 in a political bind because they will have to pick between supporting claims of fraud, which many of them have spoken out against, or voting against the president and potentially fueling a primary challenge. If an objection has the support of a member of the House and a member of the Senate, the two chambers separate and debate it for up to two hours. Both the House and Senate would then vote on whether to uphold the objection, which would require a majority in both chambers to be successful. The group of 11 Republicans acknowledged on Saturday that their efforts would ultimately fall short. "We are not naïve. We fully expect most if not all Democrats, and perhaps more than a few Republicans, to vote otherwise. But support of election integrity should not be a partisan issue," they said. "A fair and credible audit — conducted expeditiously and completed well before Jan. 20 — would dramatically improve Americans’ faith in our electoral process and would significantly enhance the legitimacy of whoever becomes our next President."
Did any of these (insert your choice of words) vote or support any of the election security bills this spring? You know, the one that said paper ballots for federal elections, etc?
Of many steps, this seems like an important one historically. This was (finally) the GOP's chance to go with law and order and norms and expunge some part of Trumpism (the part that is literally seditious). If 11 senators will object to an election result this obvious, why would the GOP ever accept any election they lose again, perhaps in any state but definitely the US general election? It seems like that's when you cross the line to not being a United States anymore. Sad, but maybe a matter of time. Fukayama in The End of History kind of suggested this would all come to pass, in some form or fashion. Once the US and its allies won the cold war, there was no real idealogical conflict left, so people would just event reasons to fight and hate each other. This was literally the "end" of history to his way of thinking.
I'm not listening to any of this bullshit about election fraud. The GOP had a chance to pass legislation but thought they were guaranteed a Trump victory regardless of foreign interference. Feb 2020: "Senate Republicans blocked an effort by Democrats to unanimously pass three election security-related bills Tuesday, marking the latest attempt to clear legislation ahead of the November elections Democrats tried to get consent to pass two bills that require campaigns to alert the FBI and Federal Election Commission (FEC) about foreign offers of assistance, as well as legislation to provide more election funding and ban voting machines from being connected to the internet. But Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) opposed each of the requests. Under the Senate's rules, any one senator can ask for unanimous consent to pass a bill, but any one senator can object and block their requests. Blackburn accused Democrats of trying to move the bills knowing that GOP lawmakers would block them and giving them fodder for fundraising efforts."
Imagine having to publicly lick the boots of a dumb, fat 74-year-old slob who lost an election by 7,000,000 votes. Trump lost the White House after abusing every power of incumbency and he lost to a 78-year-old man that spent most of the campaign doing interviews from his house. I remember it was funny when Republican presidential candidates had to make the pilgrimage to Simi Valley to pay homage to Saint Ronald, but now they have to start their presidential campaigns on their hands and knees at the one-term feet of Donald Trump. Embarrassing.
Why wasn’t this audit or whatever they are calling it proposed a month ago? And what further investigation is required that hasn’t already been conducted?
I think it's a near certainty that those 11 senators have dirty secrets that the Trump admin is holding over them.
That's an understandable question but I think it's the wrong question and focus. The safe harbor passed on 12/11. Beside 11/3-12/11 being 38 days and that they couldn't come up with any evidences that would give Judges or States pause to certify their result, now they want 10 days of audit is just an outright statement that they won't accept the legitimate result of the election. They know they can't overturn the 2020 election, so why would they do this? It's for political reasons first and if the chances come up in 2024 or later, they can exercise their power to steal an election. MM era of GOP has shown that if they can do it, they will do it no matter the consequences. And the consequence here is death to democracy.
Don’t forget to include ****ing Anti-Democratic, power-hungry traitors. All of them should be immediately removed and barred for life from Congress and spend the rest of their lives in prison cells. Every Republican Party candidate deserves to not receive a single vote in 2022 and 2024, and until those within the party find the balls to reform it for the better, Republicans should walk in the political wilderness for a very long time. The fact there is a decent-sized portion of our population that supports this disgusting behavior and believes Trump’s nonsense that the election was stolen from him pisses me off and is beyond disturbing.
The republican party of sedition trying to overturn an election, and in the process American democracy...
The difference between the Democratic party and the corrupt republican party of sedition... one follows the rule of law, the other one ignores them if their power is weakened...
