Why is everything defined by titles?

I just watched this in it’s entirety and my view on things just changed.

LOOK at how slim Harden was. How much leaner PJ was.

How Capela was actually a worse player than Nene on both ends but both were fantastic players.

How much bigger the Rockets were outside the back court. Ariza was a LONG guy, so was Luc. They make PJ look like a guard.

How CP3 was playing more like Curry than Nash.

How Nene was fantastic passing out of the high post and had such a huge BBIQ.

How they ran so many different sets that year until the ASB.

How they made good defense look, not even bad, just literally irrelevant.

CP3 gliding past anybody he wanted to at any time, but would just pull up because he was in such an insane shooting rhythm to start that year.

A title changes none of this. This was fantastic basketball. I got a bunch of different emotions watching this. This was legendary stuff from a legendary team. Don’t let this stupid championship nonsense take away from the joy we had and should still have watching this team.

You can literally feel how rare of a great team this was when you watch this video. So damn crisp. So effortless at every part of the game.

OF COURSE they almost beat GS. Look at the damn talent. They’d beat the hell out of these Lakers too. No way in hell I bet against them.

    Why?

Don’t do this. Great show...hell it was amazing, but it’s a lot like the Game of Thrones. It all ends in heartbreak and disappointment. Chris Targaryen goes crazy in his pursuit of the crown that he’s wanted so badly all his life (so close) and James Snow stabs him when we all thought they could rule the kingdom together.

    ....No it doesn’t.

The video I just linked stands on its on.

You guys have been brainwashed into not even enjoying the sport for what it is because of this imaginary idea of championship.

Championships don’t even exist in any tangible way. The season just stops.

    THIS exists though.

Chris Paul, Harden, Luc, Nene at the top of their games isn’t some imaginary milestone that you give someone a cookie for at the end.

The level the Rockets reaches is some rare **** that should be acknowledged or enjoyed. You don’t just forget it because of the arbitrary results of an arbitrary series.

Championships are arbitrary now? That's going a bit too far.

The team was great, one of the best Rockets teams ever, obviously. You can just end it there.

No, it’s not going too far.

You could change the definition of a champion to best of 11 in two series between the top 2 Seeds of either conference.

NBA history would vastly different, so the idea of a “winner”.

And I’m not gonna leave it at that. One of the best Rockets teams ever? What team would dominate like that one?

Even Hakeem’s teams just barely slipped by teams on a regular basis in the playoffs.

The 18 Rockets were a steamroller with no brakes.

    “Championships are nonsense”
    “Championships don’t exist”

Instead we celebrating Conference Finals losses.

    Great thread. Would read again.

Yeah.... Hakeem “barely slipped by” the Magic. Thankfully we won game 4.

Well, you should look at the definition of 'Arbitrary' and perhaps change the word you're using.

You're basically saying that hey, Jordan won his titles entirely on random luck!

It would have been arbitrary if when the rockets lost game 7 the NBA said "Hey, lets make this best of 11 since CP3 got hurt!"

It's not arbitrary when going into the season everyone knew there would be 7 game series and that you had to win 16 games to win a chip. Everyone knows this going in, including the Rockets.

And now you're implying that Hakeem's Rockets teams were worse than this one. That's not going to end well for you here.

Time to send out the @tinman signal. We have a nonbeliever.

When all the pieces fit. The only thing that happened was luck. Bad luck that CP3 and Moute got injured. This was going all in and it worked up until then. To actually have a team that could beat the greatest team of all time was amazing.

Only one team out of 32 teams can win a championship. Its ok to appreciate a good season or player even if it doesn't end in a title win. The sky isn't falling every time you don't win it all.

A championship or bust mindset can lead to things like trading cp3 for russ because at least you're not "standing pat" and are "doing something"

All I see was CP3 orchestrating the offense like a magician. Can’t believe we traded this guy to appease Harden.

Championships obviously mean quite a bit. But to your point this was a championship level team and that is often lost on people. 18 Rockets are a contender in pretty much any season in NBA history and winner in quite a few of them. Incredibly rare are the teams that are so dominant that they can always overcome any luck and randomness that presents itself on route to being a champion. Anyone that says Harden can’t be the best player on a championship team is a moron.
