I thought Wall and Boogie both looked great considering how long it’s been since either played. Wall in particular still looks like he has the burst to blow by bigger players but his timing was clearly off. He missed a few at the hoop I know he would normally make. He also was able to mostly keep up with Fox defensively when they matched up and that means something because Fox is one of the fastest players in the league. Wall’s shot with a defender closing out wasn’t great but he seems to have a nice stroke when left open- that’s one noticeable difference between him and Westbrook. As an opponent I would play the odds of leaving Westbrook wide open as a strategy - I’m not so sure I would do the same against Wall despite the fact he has a similarly poor outside shooting stroke when covered.
Exactly right. 0-6 on open threes ( defender 4-6 ft. Away) and 2-2 on wide open 3s ( closest defender 6 feet or more away)
Would you be interested in Aminu from ORL in a flip for PJ? I think contracts are close enough without anything more than filler needed to match 6'9" long athletic defends well inside and out Decent 3pt catch and shoot from other spots besides the corner ... Can pick and pop a little Also WAY more athletic, much younger, and far better rebounding and finishing around the rim than Tucker ORL gets a cheaper replacement for injured AFA on a contract expiring 1 year earlier, just as Isaac and their other injured Forward (1RP from Auburn last year) are ready to take any available F minutes behind Gordon next season I like AFA as a much better fit at the 4 in this lineup next to Wood or Boogie
Aminu is still recovering from injury. But while Aminu is younger, he is not really much of an upgrade, if at all, to PJ. And he is on a worse contract.
Yeah I saw AFA had setback in recovery, but it's been over a year since surgery If he gets back on court soon and looks healthy before the deadline ... I'd take 15 mos of committed 30 yo tall, long in exchange for 3 more months of disgruntled 36 yo small, slow as our 'big wing' in F rotation for 24 minutes every night
Grass is not always greener is all I'm saying. Especially when discussing players that are not clear upgrades. If I trade PJ its for CLEAR upgrade starter or multiple FRP or 1 FRP and a younger player with upside + savings. Aminu offers none of that.
And those defensive wings need to shoot at least 33-36%. Both Tate and Nwaba have a ways to go on that side. Unlike PJ who is shooting 50% from 3. Sterling Brown is shooting 60% from 3.
Really nice assists from Cousins and both plays set up by John Wall. I think both are showing flashes of what they will be able to do more consistently after several games. Those two were out for an incredible stretch of time, but both were outstanding players before each had a series of serious injuries, as we all know. It bugs me that some of the people here tend to expect perfection immediately, which I think is both unrealistic and unfair to the former All Stars. Assuming they are both really over those injuries, what we see after 10-15 games will tell the tale of just close they've been able to come back to what they once were, in my opinion. Both are very rusty. Wall looks to be in better shape than Cousins, at least to me, but his timing is off and he's bothered more by defenders when he's shooting from behind the arc, as was pointed out earlier by @glimmertwins and backed up by @aelliott. Probably more than he used to be, pre-injury, in my opinion. I think he'll get more comfortable with defenders running at him, given time. Just how good he'll be shooting from three once he's gotten more comfortable? Wall will have to show us. I don't think anything bothers Boogie.
