I was listening to the hoop collective podcast and they were talking about Harden after his performance against Portland and transitioned onto Wood. They were complimentary about him but I wondered all this time why Detroit didn’t resigned Wood but signed all these bigs. Apparently Detroit were weary of Wood red flags I guess that are off the court issues.

I’m Happy with Wood. And happy he’s here but I was wondering if anybody heard this before.
Again I’m not complaining or accusing jsut curious what the issues were because they didn’t really go in depth but that the was a main topic of the Wood discussion

To be fair, Detroit aren’t the best decision makers when it comes to basketball. Plus they historically don’t have have issues were so call bad boys

There’s a reason why a player that talented has bounced around so much. Either way the word is he’s figured it out(mentally). I’m not a naive fan but I’m not worried about it.

Out of unlv he had maturity issues and off court stuff I guess. Also questions about his work ethic when he got to the pros. But we are going back years, supposedly people were worried about how he would do when he got paid big money.

all past tense now it looks like. He’s playing great

    Agreed.
Sometimes it is about finding the right situation.
His Price is right for several years.
Harden is going to make him a SUPERSTAR . . . .(He made Capela a star .. . people actually knew his name)

Sounds like it was still an issue when he clearly had a breakout season for Detroit and they decided to pass on bringing him back. If that happened to us we would be heated as a fanbase like we were when Morey let Dragic walk

I’m concerned that he’s shown growth as a man and a player and that he might still grow in both categories.

He’s rail thin, can’t hold any physical bigs, cant overpower anybody on offense, isn’t quick enough laterally to guard perimeter players, and probably isn’t consistent as you would like for the skill he has.

... and It’s why we got him for 14 mill per, which is a great bargain even with all his red flags. Consider him a 6’10, 25 year old PF version of Lou Will, easily worth 10% of our roster salary.

He had work ethic and maturity issues. He says when he got cut by Chinese team it opened his eyes.

As of right now some of the things I would like for him to clean up is

His rebounding and positioning on rebounds.
    Boxing out
Passing out of post or high elbow.

Seems to take him a little while to find the open man or make the right pass.

Could be still learning the offense and or what teammates he’s passing too and where they are suppose to be.

I won't speculate because I don't know anything behind the scenes, nor do I give credit to the Detroit organisation for knowing what they're doing.

But it's fairly obvious Wood does not have the greatest basketball IQ - maybe that's the red flag?

His hands and body control offensively are amazing and I'm glad he's here because he'll prove fun to watch for a non-contending team.

However, his defense is absolutely atrocious. His positioning, his effort, everything on that side of the ball. It's only been two games but it's already there clear as day.

Sounds like he had racism issues.
