My 19 y/o son has an HTC Vive and a gaming PC he built for VR 2 years back and it's pretty bad ass. I play it every time I go hang out with him. Some edibles and the Google Paint room with 3D painting (the name of the app is TILT BRUSH) is a really good time! I thought about buying one of these Oculus for VR for me but I really only play GTA V on the PS4 about twice a month so I decided it would be a waste of money.
Have the old occulus. Just not a fan of VR. Being removed from everything around u (the weather, other people, my dog, etc..) while playing video games just isn't a long term fun experience. Its something I could do for like 15 minutes max.
I have the first Quest, not the Quest2, and I friggin' love it. No PC required. Yes, there's a LOT of vr pron. Try running the YouTube app and watching 360 degree videos. (Free) Try launching the Amazon Prime video app and watching TV show re-runs on a movie theater screen. (Free) Try running Rec Room and playing VR paintball. (Free) Try Richie's Plank Experience (cheap) Try the wizard simulator,Waltz of the Wizard (cheap) ... There's just a lot of really enjoyable content, even beyond games.
My daughter is a software developer here in Austin. A lead Dev. She purchased a early version of one of these, but I've gotten the impression that she doesn't use it much. She gets motion sickness fairly easily, but hasn't said it was a problem. Your post brought that potential issue to mind and I think it's a legitimate question to ask. Those of you using these recent model VR's, is motion sickness an issue for those sensitive to it? Are the newer ones less likely to cause it? I don't get motion sickness at all, thank god.
Well there is a motion sickness element to it I am noticing. especially the first person shooter game they have. Definitely queasy after using it for 10 minutes.
Newer ones can improve your experience due to having higher refresh rates, but it honestly varies for each person and you'd have to try out a model you are aiming for.
