does anyone here know of any photo editing programs. im not even sure if that is what you call it.

really what i want to do is alter images. make it look like someone is drawn. so i guess more or less abstract stuff.

so if anyone knows of a trial program i can try out, or just a plain free one thanks.

I prefer Paint Shop Pro.

I use version 7.0, but there is an 8.0 which seems to be more keyed towards photos and digital picture editing. It runs a bit slower too IMO.
Both have a trial version.

There's really no better photo/image editing software than Photoshop, but it is very complex and not particularly easy for beginners.

This is a free image manipulation program.

I've never used it, so I can't vouch for it.

The extremely expensive digital camera that you never use, it didn't come with any software? My Canon came with Arcsoft Photo Studio and some other programs, all can be used to re-size images, bump up the color, etc.

If you need to buy software and can't spend $500 on Photoshop, then JASC PaintShop Pro is pretty affordable, I've used it and it's not that bad. Corel Graphics Suite should have PhotoPaint and it's my weapon of choice, I've used it for years.

5 tutorials of photoshop and you will be flying through that program, No doubt one of the best ones I've ever used... You can do from the most basic things to some things that you wouldn't even imagine.

Rockhead i have a canon also. but the things i wanted to do were not on the program that came with it. at least i couldnt find stuff on there. the program that came with it seemed to be nothing more then a glorified paint on windows.

WinGimp is the Windows version of Gimp, and it's very good -- I use Gimp all the time. Pretty sophisticated. Will take a bit to learn it.

Irfanview is great for really simple things. INSANELY easy to use.

BTW, they are both free. Photoshop is great, but it's expensive (if you buy it).

Photoshop is the best and it is what we use in the journalism business, but like Jeff said, it is quite complex. I'd recommend that you get the Photoshop for Dummies book along with it. It explains everything in an easy to understand format that will make you a photoshop genius in no time.
