I don't see the Astros doing that kind of move this offseason. You could probably sign Jake Marisnick and one of Kyle Schwarber/Eddie Rosario for 13 million a year.....
Cubs fans are idiots, so is the Chicago media. The media really believed they were getting Gore. The Cubs dealt Darvish in large part to dump salary.
Once again, the Padres are gonna be a problem for the Dodgers in the West. Padres still probably a step behind, but my goodness they’re going for it. Didn’t give up their elite prospects while still getting Clevinger, Snell, Darvish all in the last 9 months. From Cubs perspective, all the guys they got are very young and have a ton of potential. It’ll be a few years before any of them contribute at the major league level, but one was a 2nd round pick this year and the other three were signed as top international prospects so there’s plenty of potential there.
Cubs are ****ed tho. Half-assing contending does not work. You don’t trade away your ace when you already have a crummy rotation and an aging offensive core unless you are going to rebuild.
Be better off using that money in free agency, hell I rather use it to keep Uncle Mike although I know that I wouldn’t fix CF Brantley + Jake does though
Padres now project as the 2nd best team in baseball, <1 win behind the Dodgers. I think both the Cubs and Rays got good returns, but I think the Padres are smart to go in hard like they are. I think Kim will be a great value at $25M/4yr (+$5M to his KBO team). That’s probably the one deal that’s happened so far that I really wish Houston had made.
Now that a couple of these top SP that were on the trading block are gone( darvish, snell) I’d imagine that some big free agent dominos begin to fall with in the next couple weeks. Bauer, Springer, and Realmuto. Click is being patient and I’m hoping he makes something happen with regards to making some smart moves to fill some holes and maintain flexibility
Its pretty amazing that there’s still over 100 WAR worth of free agents available at New Years. I think most people think they have more time due to the expectation of the season being delayed, but I agree now that a couple of big trades have happened and the holidays have passed we should start to see some more movement.
Hopefully this is what's happening and he's not twiddling his thumbs. I would've expected a move like the Jake for Taylor move to try to shore up an outfield spot by now. Color me unimpressed with the job Click has done so far. He was given the best team in baseball and what has he done in over a year on the job? Re-signed Yuli. He hasn't even made any minor trades to upgrade the team. I've got a feeling that unfortunately the 2017 title is the only title this group gets. Unless JV somehow makes a miraculous recovery. Teams all over baseball are making moves to improve their teams. The Astros not so much. Some guys on this MB like to go bargain hunting and find gems on the cheap. That's no way to win a championship and I'm not talking about re-signing Springer.
I still have faith in Click, but you’re right, he certainly hasn’t done much. I’m not worried yet, but it would be nice to see something...
Alvarez is pretty slow though right? Especially for an OF position. Granted, I guess he wouldn't be playing CF but still.
Yes, I wouldn't expect him to play much OF with the exception of a few days in our small LF. He has had knee issues but moves pretty well considering his size.
