You are completely correct. I’ll be very disappointed if we replace springer with just a defensive specialist with no bat. We need to sign MBJ and Brantley. This would keep us an elite offensive team.
Now there’s a report out there that - even after acquiring Snell, the Padres are in “deep talks” to acquire Yu Darvish from the Cubs. San Diego is going all in and cashing in their prospect chips.
I do not want Kiermeier for Houston. He’s an aging all-glove player. Not what the Astros need. If they’re going to do that I just as soon see them sign somebody like Cameron Maybin for way way cheaper.
Padres gonna be STACKED. RF Pham LF Cronenworth SS Tatis 3B Machado 1B Hosmer DH Myers CF Grisham 2B Kim C Nola Bench: Campusano, Mateo, Allen, O’Grady Rotation: Snell, Darvish, Lamet, Davies, Paddack/Morejon/Gore Bullpen: Pagan, Pomeranz, Johnson, Strahm, Stammen, Adams, Hill
This is their contending window thus why they're going for it.... unfortunately in comes at a time where they're still not likely to win their division nor finish better than the Braves.
I don’t know, their lineup and rotation may be the best in the league, and they still have a very deep farm they can use to stack their bullpen. I think they will be very competitive against the Dodgers and Braves.
I wouldn't give up a lot for Yu Darvish personally. Which Yu Darvish do you get? He is constantly having confidence issues. The local Cubs sports guys think they are getting Gore, I cannot see that happening.
They are peaking at a better time than the Astros did. 10 100-win teams in a 3-year period followed by a pandemic. Fortunately for the Astros, they were the best of the bunch.
The peak Astros never had to deal with a powerhouse like the Dodgers in their division. Starting your contending window without a guarantee of winning the division is a tough way to start it...
They were the darling of the pandemic trade deadline, then fizzled largely due to pitching staff injuries. They look great... but still have to play the games. And those other two teams aren't going away any time soon, and have already proven what they can do over a full season. But they have to act now and fully support them cashing in their prospect chips.
I would not call losing to the World Series Champs "fizzling". They lost to the best while injured. No shame in that.
That says the deal will be $7-8M/yr for 4-5 years. That’s a steal, I would love Kim in Houston for that price.
Yea, no way on Kiermaier. Rays will have to eat money to move him. He is owed just under 26 million the next 2 years including a buyout for the 3rd year at 2.5 million. 13 million a year is almost Brantley money.
Now one thing I might be cool with is Tampa throwing in a prospect to offset Kiermeier’s contract. Maybe one of their underperforming former 1st rounders (Greg Jones or Josh Lowe) and Kiermeier for one of Houstons 2nd tier pitching prospects (Martes, Perez, Abreu, or Garcia)?
In non-Astros news...Gary Sanchez says he doesn't know why he was benched in playoffs last year. He must be unaware that bat only catchers are expected to hit better than Simone Biles's weight.
