a record store called Mr. Music?

I remember going in there as a kid (most of the stuff was still on vinyl).

It was in a brand new mall called North Oaks on FM 1960 at Stubener-Airline.

This was obviously in the early 1980s.

Just wondering if anybody else remembers the place. No reason why really.

Yep. I remember that whole shopping center. Mr. Music was there.

There was Target there too (still there actually) and my parents would always take us there to get the new Star Wars figures. We also went to that crappy movie theater (saw Poltergeist there).

And of course, Games People Play was just a couple of lights down.

Back in the day, that area was the closest source of entertainment to Cypress (before Willowbrook Mall came around).

I fondly remember there being Aladdin's Castle as well as a toy store (can't remember the name)...they sold role playing games a lot.

Now there isn't an indoor part to the mall...and the parking lot is FAR from safe. :(

Cool that somebody else remembers. I don't feel quite so old anymore.

In the early 80's we would ride our bikes up there and sneek into the movies...funny that it used to seem like such a cool place.

I use to practically live at North Oaks in the 80s. That place was awesome until willowbrook was built.

I used to live really close to there but as much as I jog my memory I can't seem to dial that place up. Candlelight Hills in the house :)

An old pal who lived in Kleinbrook and I used to hang out at Willowbrook all the time. Games People Play used to be right around there, didn't it? Oh Codell mentioned that - we used to go there a ton. I remember a rumor about someone sneaking in to ride their still-being-constructed waterslides and dying.

Then there was that water park they put in at I-45 and 2920 (??? I think) ... ah the memories.

We used to go to North Oaks Mall every Friday night. First to the movies, then to Aladdin's Castle, then to Mr Music, then to Bennigans.

I think that movie theatre was one of the first 'dollar' theatres in town if I remember right.

Wasn't the token guy at Aladdin's Castle dressed up as a pirate?

Thanks codell. That's the place where a near brouhaha broke out in the summer of 1989 because one of the lifeguards called my deaf brother a "dumbass" because he didn't turn around when addressed by high-and-mighty whistle guy. Amazingly they didn't fire him :emoticon:

Given that area of town, it was probably a cow pasture. :p
