I bolded the key part... If the league reinstatement steps is a week or more (as it has been) Harden will be missing games. Since they chose not to suspend him and merely fined him 50k... the likely result is that Harden misses games, yet the Rockets will still have to pay him the 400k per game.

Which is ultimately to his advantage, assuming a trade is inevitable regardless his trade value- the less his destination team has to give up to get him there, the better a team he ends up on.

Won't dispute your characterization, for other reasons, even if he's a genius regarding all of these shenanigans, in case they are intentional to the above goal.

So $50,000 fine for Harden with salary of $40mil is same as a $50 fine for a normal guy making $40,000 a year. Barely a tickle.....

But if he's suspended, he loses a percentage of his salary for each game he misses. Not sure what that % is, though.

50 Racks for him doesn't seem like a punishment.. feels more like a pat on the back.. encouragement

Here we go... WOJ: "Besides the 50K fine for violating protocol, Harden will lose $284K in salary for each missed game."

this is why I think a 5 game suspension would have been perfect.

"$50K is the maximum price permitted for a fine before an NBA player can file a grievance with the league"

If he would have been suspended would that have helped our hard cap situation so we could bring Green back ?

It’s the max dollar fine the NBA can give a player, per NBA by-laws. More pain only achievable via suspension/lost pay.

Why? You don't even have all the facts; how are you able to determine the proper punishment? lol

Especially since it’s not allowed. $50k is Max fine for a player, per NBA bylaws. Suspension/lost pay is only other way.

Not true. Missed games due to quarantine from breaking protocol are lost wages, like a suspension.

If true that would make a ton more sense.

The wording of steins post and the league seems ambiguous.
