I think the Reds will also want someone to eat one of their big contracts like Moustakas, Castellanos, or maybe Suarez.

Also said the next reported signing could be by the Astros... guessing a relief pitcher.

I wonder what a Whitley for Castellanos/Castillo trade looks. Barnhardt and Akiyama might make some level of sense from their roster as well.

Whitley's value is in the toilet. His prospect ranking is irrelevant because of his performance and arm troubles. They would want Javier to start with.

Castellanos would be really hard to trade because he has an opt out after this season. Castillo has probably $70M in surplus value. If Cincy is dead set on shedding salary Suarez and Gray are probably their best bet. They can probably find takers for those 2 and possibly even get back some decent mlb ready prospects.

    How about:
    Astros get:
    SP Sonny Gray
    3B Eugenio Suarez

    Reds get:
    RHP Forrest Whitley
    IF Abraham Toro
    RHP Luis Garcia

    Astros get:
    OF Trevor Larnach
    OF Gilberto Celestino

    Twins get:
    SS Carlos Correa

Astros sign JT Realmuto $90M/4yr (backloaded)
    Astros sign Kirby Yates $8M/1yr
    Astros sign Jake Marisnick $3M/1yr

    Roster:
    SS Bregman
    2B Altuve
    DH Alvarez
    3B Suarez
    LF Tucker
    C Realmuto
    1B Gurriel
    RF Larnach
    CF Marisnick
    Bench: Diaz, Maldonado, Straw/Celestino, Jones/Stubbs
Rotation: Greinke, Gray, Valdez, McCullers, Urquidy
Bullpen: Pruitt, Raley, Taylor, Paredes, Smith, Javier, Pressly, Yates

While I expect you are right....that is how the Astros GM earned his last name.

    Nice R-L-R-etc
    3B Bregman
LF Brantley 2 yrs 30 million
    2B Altuve
    DH Alvarez
SS Correa 5 yrs/125 million extension. Takes place after fans are back. More than any contract signed in 2021.
    RF Tucker
    1B Gurriel
    C Maldonado
CF Bradley Jr. 3 yrs 30 mil

    Bench:
    C Castro 1 yr 3 mil
    C Stubbs
    IF Diaz
    OF Straw
    IF/OF Toro or McCormick

    SP Grienke
    SP Valdez
    SP McCullers
    SP Urquidy
    SP Javier

Number of factors I don’t wanna upgrade the rotation. With out a 1st and 2nd rd pick don’t wanna deplete the farm anytime soon. Valdez, Urquidy & Javy’s stuff and prime seasons ahead under team control. Hope that Whitley lives up too #1 Prospect status, JV rehabbing w/ intent on pitching, etc

    Pen:
Hendriks 5yrs/50 mil. Pay him what he wants. Biggest glaring need besides CF.
    Pressly
    J. Smith
    Paredes
    Taylor
    Pruitt
    Garcia
    Abreu
Scrubb or C. Perez or J. James

Love Javier but I would put him in as a headliner for Castillo.

Since we all seem to be bored with nothing happening here is another roster for 2021...

Also, I am assuming the Mets sign Springer

    Sign DJ LeMahieu for 5/100
    Sign Michael Brantley for 2/30
Sign Taijuan Walker for 2/15 with a team option for a 3rd year for 10 million with a 1 million buyout

Trade Correa and Luis Garcia to the Mets for Seth Lugo, Brandon Nimmo, and Francisco Alvarez.

If the Mets land Springer they don't need Nimmo. They would have Springer, Conforto, Dom Smith, JD Davis, and McNeil that can all play the outfield. Alvarez is one of their top prospects and is a catcher. Since they just signed McCann maybe they will part with him.

    Lineup:

    LeMahieu 3B
    Brantley LF
    Altuve 2B
    Alvarez DH
    Bregman SS
    Tucker RF
    Gurriel 1B
    Nimmo CF
    Maldonado C

    Bench:
    Straw
    Francisco Alvarez
    Toro
    Diaz

    Rotation:
    Greinke
    Valdez
    Urquidy
    Walker
    McCullers

    Bullpen:
Pressly, Lugo, Paredes, Javier, Smith, Taylor, Pruitt, Scrubb/Abreu/Perez

Javier is essentially free for next three years while Castillo will likely cost about $25-30M total. That's Brantley or Hendricks money difference, plus Astros would have Javier another two (edit) years after Castillo is a free agent. There are less costly options that will improve team more short term.

I know your'e just spitballing, but I'm not in on LeMahieu long-term. And I'm *really* not in on Taijuan at all. He's not the rehab guy to go after. And wait trade Correa for only 1 prospect (yes elite, but still 2-3 years away and a lot can happen)? Lugo and Nimmo are fine but not massive in the return.

I'm out on all these moves, except of course Brantley would be fine if he fits with other signings. Love that guy but he's getting older and only works if we're set up to win.

I'm still pissed we didn't go get Dahl at such a low number, and the Rangers snagged him of all teams. Such a loss to not outbid them.

I'm thinking Astros do better in free agency and Dahl didn't want to ride the pine.

If we went from Brantley to Dahl I’d be so depressed

Really? Who's better in CF? I don't think JBJ is a ton better (considering offense/defense together) and wouldn't be considered if they got Dahl. Much better value than JBJ imo. (I assume platoon w/Jake or someone similar)

Bradley Jr. is the best defensive CF. Say what you want about his hitting (Has been around a .240 career hitter who puts up or near 20 homers a season. He’d be in top company in hitting ninth.

Dahl's about a 10% better hitter than JBJ. Dahl should not be a center fielder and is not close to being within 10% of JBJ's defensive value. He seems fast on the bases, but he moves slower when tracking a ball. Might as well put Tucker in CF. As I see Dahl as a corner OF, I'd compare him to guys like Brantley, Pederson.

Here's a couple of plays showing Dahl's speed and hustle.
