the Jedi lore was so rampant though. And the characters in this series are of a species/race that we saw when the Jedi were around. I thought at least mando would have some knowledge considering the ones who raised him were enemies of the Jedi.

sidenote and courtesy spoiler for this season:
Grogu has gotta be dark side yoga, right? That would be crazy!

The Jedi numbered five digits at their peak and even frontlined entire wars (for example vs Mandalore), so it does seem a bit weird how fast they've fallen into the myth category within a couple of years.
Palpatine also mentions them a lot in political speeches, first as keepers of galactical peace and later as enemies of the Republic.

Given their notoriety and when you see how fast news and events spread throughout the galaxy (for example after the victory at Naboo or when the death Star fell), they should've been covered a lot and been remembered for centuries.

So probably fewer Jedi per person in Galaxy than exorcists on Earth today. Do people believe in exorcists today?

Han said it best to some up view of Jedi..."Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid."

The difference is that Jedi back then weren't at all seen as hocus pocus frauds and were a very essential part of the Galactic order and politics, the Jedi Temple also was one of the key institutions of Coruscant.

They were consulted a lot by the government and given some of the most crucial tasks to keep peace in the galaxy, maneuver political talks or help out in dangerous situations. Or as mentioned, frontlining entire wars and having named em after them.

You can see Palpatine constantly mentioning them and using them to shift political momentum in Senate speeches.

Edit: And because I only mentioned the prequels:
Even in the original trilogy, Luke received a medal of honour, was promoted to a General and known as a legendary war hero throughout the entire rebellion and new Republic.

So even after Order 66, the heroics of Luke put Jedis back into everyone's minds and made ppl again aware of their powers.

Jedi Council could be more like the Vatican. No one thanks the Pope for keeping Vampires under wraps, do they?

Even during the prequels, it seemed like they were sent to special forces-like missions or start off as Bond-like diplomats who don't abuse their powers on the surface. They didn't really live in the same world as average blue collar stiffs.

I can appreciate Jon Favreau putting some fandom in this. I seen a comment on an IG post where someone was trying to give credit to Rian Johnson's creativity. That's cool and all but at this point Star Wars has "lore" that should be upheld and I don't think Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams understood Star Wars lore and fandom. Nothing they did creatively excited me in the overall picture. The Mandalorian has delivered.

And yet Han still called it a hokey religion...with the same skeptical nature most have towards exorcists. Rarely do events happen on Coruscant with people doubting Jedi. It is those people on small planets that have never seen it just as people who haven't seen exorcists perform doubt them.

it seems like the jedis are known mainly in wealthy and high-class planets. those barren planets don't seem to know or care about such things. that's my theory.

but it is weird that people throughout the galaxy seem to know more about mandos than jedis. their numbers are equally few.

    Question:

It was being portrayed that the group at the end was screwed with the dark troopers about to punch through the door and enter their vicinity, but shouldn't Mando now have a chance against them since he has the darksaber? Or does the darksaber not work against these troops?

Loved the SHOW, but the ending of season 2, left me feeling cool for nostalgia but there seemed to be a big MEH for the Mando......

The whole show was about him until it wasn't.
