RIP Pat This guy was an amazing guy. I honestly believe that he would be upset with all the attention he is receiving right now, but that just shows how much he deserves it. I remember hearing an interview with someone in his family saying that Pat did not want to do interviews or anything because he didn't want any extra attention because he "wasn't giving up anything more than any other soldier out there". That is the kind of guy this was. A true hero.
Pat Tillman is a true inspiration to our courageous troops, future troops, and their supporters. Pat gave up everything to serve. Very few people have that inside of them.
I logged back in to CC specifically for a thread like this. I hate that the word "hero" has been so butchered and misused lately, because now it doesn't seem strong enough to emphasize what this guy gave to all of us. I know we have a broad spectrum of feelings about some of our conflicts, but this guy wanted to hunt down Al Qaeda at the headwaters, and I think we can all agree that this was "the good fight." Summa c*m laude graduate, multi-million dollar athlete... could have had the material world at his feet here in the states, but he went to fight for his beliefs, to protect his fellow citizens. Absolutely, positively inspiring. RIP.
+ RIP On similar note, did Rocky Blier enlist or was he drafted? He didn't lose his life, but he was a player who left the NFL to go to Vietnam, and was seriously injured.
As sports fans it sure puts a face on this war doesn't it? This is horribly sad. It's just as sad as when any of our soldier's gets killed by those animals. I don't care how shallow I appear by calling them animals. They are animals. I wish them all a fiery eternity. RIP Pat tillman + We'll win.
+ I say a little prayer everyday for our soldiers over in Iraq, Afghanistan and other parts of the world. I thank them for doing something I wouldn't have the courage to do.
+ Isabel said it best, "It doesn't seem fair". A hero for certain, as are all that do their duty with the same selfless, gracious sacrifice, just for the sake of the cause.
with all due respect to Tillman...there are a lot of selfless people over there giving their lives as well
It's easy to look out for #1, or seek more money...but standing up for what you believe is right isn't always so easy. He gave up so much in sports and money in the civilian world because he wanted to serve his country during these trying times...He wanted to take action after seeing 9/11 happen and did so extraordinarily...at 27 years old, a hero is someone who made himself that without a doubt... RIP, Pat Tillman
So true, everyone over there are selfless. He gave up his future for something he believed in, he is one of the many hero's over there.
If I didnt have so much respect for Tillman, I would challenge this right now, but this is not the time. RIP.
I know that in a political year we frequently are busy pointing out what's wrong and this guy is better than that guy and on and on... but this is truly an American story. The fact that this man turned his back on what so many of us see as the American Dream... millions, stardom, the works, to serve his country... what an inspiration. Rest in peace, Pat. You won't be forgotten.
It reminded me of one of the greatest baseball players of all time, Ted Williams. He served in both World War II and the Korean war.
