Nice try, Mr. Darrell Moray, but we're onto you and your games. jk. Nice first thread. I think most of us are hoping for even an 80% John Wall post-injury in this offense. The thing most of us worry about is whether or not his knees and achilles will hold up, especially with the style he plays.
Appreciate the insights. So much depends on health. But as I am keying this, it dawned on me why unloading Harden soon has one thing in its favor. What I don't want to happen is half a season of acclimating what everyone is doing for Harden, only to have him gone and a bunch of new parts come in and we have to start all over again in building chemistry and developing new strategies.
Well remember that I've been in okc for awhile now so I'm probably more familiar with Russ than you guys. Tonight will be his 1st game but so far he's been like a kid. Just seems happy to be in DC, to be back with Brooks who he respects more than anyone, happy to team up with a great guard in Beal because Brad can score 30 while Russ still keeps the ball most of the game instead of having to share so much with Harden. He's taking all the young guys under he wing and has just had like a weird jolly attitude.. Lol I think Russ has heard all of the backlash and sees this as a perfect opportunity to get his reputation back by leading a lottery team to the playoffs in the east and he has a true green light. That might not be the greatest thing but I think he will look more efficient with Beal and Bryant
I’ll take a wiz fan over a jiz fan That being said, Wall has roughly the career TS% then WB, both regular season and playoffs, both of which are horrendous. I won’t be expecting him to lead us to any success, if he does I’ll be surprised, and hopeful we can go ahead and flip him like OKC did CP.
If Wall had been an FA and we signed him for something like 3/30 I'd be beyond ecstatic with what we've seen so far. With 3/130 left on his deal, the injury concern is obviously very, very big, but I'm still optimistic he helps keep this team competitive if we trade Harden.
Great post OP. I also post on other sites and saw your post over there, it takes guts to say what you believe with evidence even if it isn't popular. I'm a fan of other cool, level minded fanbases sharing thier opinions on here and putting things in perspective from other teams. Wall looks good and like a star so far. I'm big on guys who can consistently perform in the playoffs and he has a solid track record. I'm also glad Silas is load managing him and Cousins. Hopefully we develop a bench like Dallas has in the past, which makes life easier for everyone over a season.
Been a Wall fan since his college days. Always used to trade for him on 2k. His injuries do worry me though.
True but again. Wall came in at 19 after gun gate with Arenas and Gil was still there that 1st year. We had the worst culture in the NBA. He spent most of his career with Flip and then Randy Wittman. Their philosophy was literally to coach for long 2s. Wittman said that it's the most open shot in the NBA. It was just nonsense. They literally made him play like Billups and Cassell. We even had Sam as the assistant. When Arenas was here and our bigs set picks, it was always to free Gil. The bigs stayed there until Gil blew by. Under Flip and Witt they would leave before even setting the pick so Wall always had to pass back or take an in effecient jumper. Just terrible coaching. Then we replaced him with Brooks who has the same rep as being a terrible offensive strategiest. I wanted so bad to get coach bud after he left Atl. I wanted so bad to get MDA after he left you guys. Wall would have been more efficient with better coaching and an open floor. Instead clogged lanes and long 2s. That would be bad for Curry let alone a person who wasn't the best shooter. He seems to be a little better now at shooting since he's been practicing nonstop with his injury but only time will tell
All of you read this. This is what dinosaur coaching Wall has had: See, the Wizards will gladly take those long 2s. Wizards coach Randy Wittman, via Kyle Weidie of TruthAboutIt.net: “You take open shots. You take open shots. Where they are is dictated by what the defense does. If you predicate what kind of shot you’re going to take not based on what you’re doing reading the defense, you’re not going to get good shots. I just worry about goods shots. You know what? Those numbers you can stick… alright? You know, all you analytical people that take that… You take good shots, that’s the most important thing. Maybe we’re not taking good midrange shots, maybe we’re taking contested ones. I understand the numbers are there for a reason, we look at the numbers, but to sit there and… We got a good, open shot we’re taking, I don’t care where it is.” Opposing defenses are suckering you, Randy. Those shots are open for a reason. No NBA team shoots worse on long 2s (37 percent) and has them comprise a higher share of their total shots (46 percent) than the Wizards. Sometimes, offenses with bad players are stuck taking long 2s. Defenses just win the battle. But the Wizards don’t have bad offensive players. After all, they rank perform better than league average at all other locations. They’re just too content with an open long 2 because it’s open, and that has evolved into them actually hunting open long 2s. Wittman noticed an area on the floor where he could schematically create open shots, and he thinks he’s taking advantage. Really, he’s playing right into the defenses’ hands. He should spend more time formulating a gameplan that creates open short 2s and 3s for his players. They’re capable of delivering.
