Funny that I happened to be listening to "Exile On Main Street" when I clicked on this thread ... Whatever happened to the double album anyway? Seems like the best ones are all classic rock ...
Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs (it's a triple) Jeff Buckley - Live from Sine Ben Harper - Live from Mars Best of They Might be Giants
This is the best ambient/electronic album ever recorded, in my opinion. I've probably listened to it a million times.
Man, I forgot about this one since I was going only by CD format!! But, yea this one is right up there for me. Thanks for reminding me about it, Bob. Sure - after all "Substance" can be argued to be a compilation CD. Yea, the things that Richard James has done have absolutely blown my mind! It took a while to appreciate this one due to the lack of beats as it made some tracks to be very unsettling. I think it is track #11 on the first disc, but every time I hear that one, I think how that track reminds me of something that Ligeti or Penderecki would have done and that it could easily have been in "The Shining". True story but I was listening to SAW, VII, on headphones and dozed off right before that track came on. When that track came on, I literally jumped up as it truly scared the **** out of me!
