Yeah, Shaq's dunk has far more elevation, explosiveness and power, especially considering he is 350lbs. I was quite excited by Yao's dunk because he doesn't do that too often. That just shows you athletically how different the two are. If Yao has Shaq's body, he'll be dominant already. IMO, Yao has a lot more skills than Shaq does.
I still don't understand why there were so many picks from Yao, by many i mean almost every offence possesion. That must exhaust him alot. I mean you don't let your No.1 pick to set a pick if you not gonna somehow get him involved after the pick. You can use Cato, hell even Oakley. yeah i know that by Yao setting the pick would somehow open up the lane alittle bit by drawing Oneil out but the bottom line is i won't be here complaining if 40% of those pnr worked. Aren't we supposed to play inside out offence after all?
you think standing still and letting someone run around you is MORE tiring than posting up in the blocks all night?? need to go work on that logic hoss...
hehe your logic is wrong man. I'll propose to trade yao for an oak tree or even a shawn bradly if he's only being"standing still and letting someone run around you". Nothing is wrong with setting picks but like i said only if it works atleast 40% i won't be here complaining. If you have watched the games, you will notice that at times, Yao would set the picks for not once but twice or even more for one single possesion. Getting pushed or bumped no less than posting up in the blocks. You telling me it's not tiring? he looked lost at times because he has no idea where the guards wanna go. Thats when the offence collapses. I'm not blaming Yao here but rather our offence set. Be it JVG or the guards or whoever is responsible. My point is we should design some more efficient offence plays instead of heavily relying on those useless PNRs.
LOL, well, "tao yen" is supposed to be a pinyin approximation of the Mandarin phrase for "How annoying", but apparently my memory is faulty.
Naw Yao dunked at the semi circle that decides whether your called for charging or not. Shaq dunked just inside the dotted line while barreling through Cato when he was with the Blazers. Not knocking Yao's game since it's just different from Shaq's entirely, but you just don't see someone that big jump that high with that much power. Yao will add more weight in the offseason and shouldn't get bullied around at all next year if he adds another 15 lbs. of muscle in the offseason like he did last year. It should also help him get fatigued less with the added muscle. To put it in perspective, it's like running. Running is a physical act all it's own, but it's easier to keep from getting winded. Running while someone is trying to knock the wind out of you with elbows, knees, and full body collisions will make you tired a lot more easily. The better Yao can take that damage with the added muscle the easier it'll be for him to get his shot off and get less fatigued. I still expect big things from Yao and he'll make us a contender in the near future, but he just has to develop some more physically whereas Shaq was already physically mature the moment he stepped on court. He'll get there soon enough though.
Okay... that's what I thought you meant. Good job dude! If it were exactly correct it would have been yan. But phonetically it is closer to yen. It just really threw me off because it was real close to pinyin... but seemed to come from no where. I think most people knew what you were trying to say, I just overthought.
To sum it up: All of you guys arguments explicitly indicate that the Rockets need the sole dominance of Yao to win at this point. The Lakers do not need the sole dominance of Shaq to win. Kobe can shoot longe range jumpers and nail in the 3s, while Steve can only drive to the hoop to score. The Rockets do not have reliable perimeter shooters. The only strength of the Rockets is close to the hoop, either by Yao in the low post or by Steve's driving to the hoop. The other teams only need to sag and defend the paint. The Rockets desperately need two good long range shooters to draw the opposing teams denfence away from the paint. Only in this way Yao can dominant. The Lakers have good long range shooters and the other teams will suffer if they double team Shaq. Without a formidable perimeter force, the Rockets will never be championship contender.
That's why brought in Pike to do exactly that, but unfortunantly for us it hasn't panned out quite as we expected.
I'm actually behind Icehouse 100%. I'm tired of the excuses that have been given. The second year fact or excuse is just pathetic. Like Icehouse has been saying, there are superstars who come into this league and make an immediate impact on their team to the point where a Lotto team immediately changes into an automatic playoff bound team and put up some stats that could compete with the rest of the upper echelon of nba stars.....
I'll be waiting, maybe next year sometime he'll get one in. Flame, Flame, Flame Your boy got no game Leg's have failed, he's not the same 24 and tired is real real lame. Stevie gets no blame, He showed up for the game. Word!
Hi Summer Song Giver, I enjoy your posts very much!!. This BBS is full of supporters of Yao. We have to have someone like you that constantly bashes Yao to make some balance. I put up a doggerel and hope you like it: I hate Yao I hate Yao I want him not to fly I want him to cry I hate Yao I hate Yao If he's gonna fly I'd rather die
