I get where you're coming from, but these people are just functional loons. They're a few steps up from the homeless guy muttering to himself on the street corner. I don't think they're lying when they believe in the crazy.

The truly disingenuous are the politicians like Loeffler and Purdue who don't believe at all the conspiracy theories but peddle it for their own benefit.

Election Fraud Attack: Ex-Houston Police Captain Charged With Assaulting Man : NPR

Aguirre and two other unidentified companions with the Liberty Center watched the victim for four days prior to the Oct. 19 attack, according to police records. They were convinced that there were 750,000 fraudulent ballots in the man's vehicle and home.

Aguirre said the victim was using Hispanic children to sign the ballots because children's fingerprints wouldn't appear on any database, according to the affidavit. He also claimed Facebook's founder gave $9.37 billion for "ballot harvesting."

Three days before the attack, Aguirre contacted law enforcement with his allegations of the alleged fraud. He called Lt. Wayne Rubio in the Texas Office of the Attorney General for a traffic stop to help in his investigation — a request Rubio denied. Concerned with Aguirre's claims that he would "handle" the situation himself, Rubio contacted police.

Aguirre was also rebuffed when he contacted the Texas Rangers and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Prosecutors say Aguirre decided to take matters into his own hands.

Aguirre and at least two other companions set up a "command post" at a Marriott hotel in Pearland, where they planned their attack, Aguirre told police. He has refused to identify his co-conspirators, claiming he doesn't know who they are, according to the affidavit.

The victim was driving his box truck during the early morning hours of Oct. 19, when he noticed a black SUV pull into his lane, almost hitting him. A few seconds later, the driver of the SUV later identified as Aguirre, allegedly slammed into the back of the man's vehicle. When the victim pulled over and got out to check on Aguirre, the former police officer allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and demanded he get on the ground.

While Aguirre had his knee into the man's back, according to the affidavit, he ordered two other people arrived on the scene to search the victim's truck.

One of them then drove the truck as Aguirre kept the man pinned to the ground. The truck was found abandoned a few blocks away about 30 minutes after the incident. When police searched the victim's truck, only air-conditioner parts and tools were found. No ballots were discovered in the truck or in the man's home.

Aguirre was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Facts vs Beliefs. My opinions are if they state incorrect facts in an affidavit, there should be legal consequences. If it turns out they are "crazy", the party that brough the suit should at least face financial consequences and subjected to ethical review.

    They would cheer it.

Republicans don’t want democracy anyway once black people and other “undesirables” are allowed to vote.

Policing is another thing that is broken in this country. Everything is adversarial. I'm a big advocate of community policing. If the police were seen as helping instead of harassing, it would be better for everyone.

Have you every heard of Steven Hotze? Him and his ultra-conservative allies are behind most of the lawsuits. They have money to burn. Anything that is pro-Trump, conspiracy theory, anti-gay...he's sues the Texas government and Houston govenrment all the time. One of his suits is where this ex Cop Aguirre was signed on as a witness. Again, Aguirre is just a loon who used to be a cop. He's just a lackey. If he falls, another crazy lackey will take his place.

I'm not against your idea, but I really don't know what to do with the crazies in the country. Let's be honest, it's a huge portion of the population.

Hotze hired 20 election fraud "investigators" to monitor Harris County voting. This dude was one of the 20.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ballots-hired-GOP-megadonor-Steven-Hotze.html

The former cop, who was fired from the force 17 years ago, was allegedly paid $266,400 by prominent Republican power-broker Hotze through his group the Liberty Center For God and County to carry out the investigation.

Hotze appears to have enlisted Aguirre's help in at least one other effort to toss American votes, with the 63-year-old cited on an arrest warrant used in a lawsuit seeking to halt early voting.

Even if they are functional loons their actions still take up resources and continue to feed into the divide. Just dismissing all the people willing to file affidavits or give testimony with no factual proof as loons means that more will be tempted to do so in the future. At the same time unscrupulous politicians will be encouraging people to peddle such falsities. Remember that several in the GOP offered monetary awards for "proof" of voter fraud. I wonder how many of those who filed affidavits did so with the desire to claim those rewards.

This goes to my prior post. In this case the person paid is arrested and going to face legal consequences. Unfortunately I doubt Steven Hotze will pay any consequences. If there are no legal consequences though for people to file affidavits and give testimony that has no factual basis people like Hotze who are unscrupulous and willing to pay will encourage more people to do so.

Neighborhood Crime Watch of Cypress Texas - Facebook page

They posted this, but literally (no exaggeration) every post on there is insulting the DA, saying this story is complete BS and that this person was arrested for "upholding the law".

FB really is a complete cesspool of a site, the people on there are mentally ill and need severe help. This page in particular is nothing but a Republican circle-jerk and it's beyond pathetic to see how actual grown adults carry themselves.

I’m gonna need the judge to give him the full 20 years for that assault, and then add on another 10 years for stupidity in the 1st degree...
