Gordon as back-up ball handler / PG?

  1. Yes, he thrives as a 6th man and can really create.

So we've seen Gordon be the ball handler throughout the years and while he's not a facilitator by any means, he can create, is quick off the dribble, is strong and can finish around the basket. Gordon likes to handle the ball more - he's been complaining about his role and lack of touches - and we've seen he can be successful given more responsibility. The one big downside: he's turnover prone and once he loses his dribble he starts to throw his hands up and get frustrated.

Now since we don't really have a back-up PG and Gordon thriving as a 6th man, I don't think he would mind to take on that role. It's not that traditional set anyway and it allows for McLemore and Green to get a shot at playing time alongside him. Clemons is definitely not an option and I'm guessing Silas will not be rigid with positions anyway. Also if Harden stays or he's traded for Simmons then this is largely moot since Harden / Wall would always be in to handle the ball. Still, for the sake of argument, let's say we get a nice haul for Harden but no PG, would you be okay with Gordon being the main ball handler to run our bench unit?

Ability to facilitate seems like an important quality in a point guard.

EG can shoot (when he’s at or inside the line), he can dribble in a straight line with a bit of stutter step, and he can finish. He can’t dribble in traffic, change direction, or pass. We need someone who can do at least two of those things. Of course if Harden plays and Wall stays healthy it is a moot point.

I’m ready for him to be traded. I can’t stand Gordon lol always complaining and shooting right when he touches the ball

One of Wall or Harden will play with EG. The issue will rise if one of the PGs misses any significant time. If that happens then I think the plan will be to run the offense from the high post with Boogie.

I know the backup PG spot looks rough right now, but we have no clue how the next two weeks will play out. If Harden comes back, it's less of an issue. Same goes if Harden is dealt for Simmons.

The problem with MDA's non offense is that it thrusts players like EG, who is not a great dribbler, into primary ball handling responsibilities. EG can absolutely be the backup in Silas' system because there is so much movement. no one player is dominating the ball if they dont have to.

Silas gave Wall the green light to create because he is a pure point guard, EG won't have that burden coming off the bench, if he comes off the bench. Rockets only had a handful of TO's in their first time in Silas system. They only had 3 TO's at the end of the 3rd qtr.

Who is starting if EG is the backup pg?

You have Wood, Harden, Wall, and PJ....and then?

I would put House in there at the 3 spot.

Playing people out of position when you don't have to...hmm, that sounds familiar.

I admit that is a better idea than starting House.

Gordon should just follow the Klay Thompson and Ray Allen model.

Run around. Catch and shoot. Easy money.

EGo is NOT very good as a passer.

    At all.

I'd rather Boogie play point center than EGo play PG.

    EGo is NOT a PG.

Can you imagine....James, EG, and PJ all getting dealt?

Yes, EG is the perfect sixth man...That role maximizes his efficiency while decreasing the odds of injury. The big problem now though, is his salary. He's certainly capable of being a starting two if James is traded. Dealing EG was our only flexibility to get better before Russ, and now quite possibly James getting moved.

Now he either starts or goes out.

Sending those three out could bring us a lot of talent, ready to win now....with upside.(picks too)
