Donnie Darko was majorly cool - cool music, cool story, cool everything. I hear they're gonna start reshowing them on the big screen.
Glowing Trunk = Glowing Suitcase Lite = Jules comparable soundtracks There used to be a good detailed on-line explanation of why Pulp Fiction=Repo Man. Unfortunately, this disappeared from the web
Yeah, the glowing trunk thing is kind of tenuous. I agree about the soundtrack though. The Jules thing I completely disagree with. If anything, maybe Tarantino paid homage to Repo Man, but to say he copied it is a bit much.
Buckaroo Banzai (Guy at comms) : The President wants to know if everything is OK with the alien spaceship, or should he go ahead and nuke Russia? Buckaroo Banzai : Tell him Yes on 1 and No on 2 (Other guy at comms) : Which was yes - Destroy Russia, or number 2?
Cool movie. Haven't watched it in years, though. "Take off, eh?" "Dad, Bob broke your beer." "Ok, uh, we found this mouse in a bottle of Elsinore beer that we bought at your beer store, eh? And we heard that when that happens you get your beer free. It's in the Canadian Criminal Code, eh. Like there's legal precedence set in cases in law, eh?" Ahh. Good times.
I believe so....it has been on constant showing since the mid70s at the midnight cinema throughout the country. I havent been to see RHPS in ages...do they still run the midnight showings where people dressup? heh...good calls on the two others I neglected to mention...Flash and Buckaroo Bonzai....man..I love cheesy scifi movies!
I have heard several people talk about how good this was. I'm gonna have to rent it. BTW, I don't know if fits the description of "cult" but one of my favorite small movies is "Swimming With Sharks". Kevin Spacey, Frank Whaley and Michelle Forbes. It is a very dark movie, but I am always on the floor laughing at the thinkgs Spacey's character does to Frank Whaley's. One of my favorite quotes from the movie is: "You are nothing! If you were in my toilet I wouldn't bother flushing it. My bathmat means more to me than you! " or "You're happy. I hate that!"
Fritz the Cat is great. Fear Of a Black Hat Repo Man Though not necesarily cult movies, USA used to have a show called "Reel Wild Cinema" that showcased bizarre stuff from the 60's. Sandra Bernhardt hosted. I miss it.
Ha, I did a thread like this about 1 year or so ago and still my favs. are Clerks (basically any Kevin Smith movie) Office Space Empire Records Go

Excellent movies. Finally got to see Delicatessen a few weeks ago (IFC) and I thought it was just a little bit better than City of Lost Children. Not by much though. Both are great movies.
My favorite movies for the most part happen to be cult movies, at least most of the time. Spinal Tap Blue Velvet Brazil Repo Man Dr. Strangelove Straight To Hell True Stories(thanks for mentioning this one or I would probably have left it off because I hadn't seen it in so long.) I'm not sure which if any or if all Marx Brothers Movies count, but those that are my favorites are... Animal Crackers, Horse Feathers, A Night at the Opera, Monkey Business(list abreviated) Miracle Morgan's Creek Do Monty Pythyon's Flyinc Circus Movies qualify? If so, add them all. Vally Girl Does Fast Times at Ridgemont High count as a Cult Movie? Army of Darkness Putney Swopes City of Lost Children Office Space Kicking and Screaming I may have left off some, due my forgetfulness.
I love a lot of the ones mentioned. Ones not mentioned so far (unless I missed em): Wild in the Streets (best. movie. ever.) River's Edge Shakes the Clown Evil Dead 2 Bad Taste Frankenhooker
