What's your expectation on Yao, SF3 and the Rockets for the playoffs?

    Every Rockets fan needs to ask them the same question: What's your realistic expectation on the team for the PO this year?

    For Yao, do you expect him to:

    1) Not embarrassed by Shaq;
    2) Neutralize Shaq;
    3) Outplay Shaq;
    4) Dominate Shaq.

    If your answer is 3 or 4, you are setting yourself to disappointment. I was expecting 1, and will be very happy if 2 happens. Which player other than Yao can neutralize Shaq, and hold him to 7 point in a game? Yao could have played better, but he passed the exam. And don't forget that he was the one defending Shaq most of the time in the game, more than he did during the games in the regular season. For me, I think that it's realistic to NOT expect him to hold Shaq on the defensive end, and significantly outplays him on the offensive end. That's just ridiculous expectation.

    For SF3, I was expecting him to show strong leadership and show us that he can play with Yao and not disrupt the offensive rhythm. SF3 played his best game of the season last night, and was terrific in the 2rd half in game one. Move him to 2 might do wonder to his offensive game.

    Finally, the Lakers are a much more talented team than the Rockets. They have F4 and our only position that has some advantage is at PG, and arguably at SF. We have huge disadvantage at SG and FG, and Shaq > Yao at least right now. They have a better coach and a better bench. The talent wins playoff series. We are not there as of yet. If you expect the Rockets to show us that they can play the Lakers in the playoff and not ask them to beat the Lakers for the series, you should be happy with the last two games. Yao and SF3 are out future. Adding some key players in the offseason and Rockets should contend for the top 4 seeds in the west next season.

    Be patient guys.

    I expect him to hold his own and not back down from anyone, I also want him to "porve" he is warranted to have the ENTIRE offense run through him. I know this is not what Yao asked for but it's what he gots, I want to see what he does with it.

    Yep, and only after he proves it against Shaq will he be justified for the offense running through him?!

    JVG asked too much from Yao. He didn't give him time and relaxed enviroment to develope. Yao didn't want to take all those reponsibilities, at least for now. If he failed, he should not be the only person to be blamed. Maybe JVG just wants Yao to be the man as soon as possible, but at least for me, it's not successful.

    I am really not an "I told you so" kind of guy, but in this case, I have to. I expected Yao to do the first option, just dont get embarrassed. However, many here were ready to annoint him as the guy, the Hakeem, the Duncan, the Daddy. Yao is years away from being the kind of guy that can get you 20/10 every night. He doesn't have the body or the will right now to carry this team or a team tailored to his many skills.
    With regards to Steve, I expected this kind of play from him, indeed I have expected it all season. You cannot deny that this guy is special in that his will to win is as much of an asset as his athletic ability. Steve is NOT the problem with this team, the problem is our lack of depth, we have too many guys that can do one thing only, and we're young.
    I really belive that we need both Yao and Steve to succeed. What we have to do now is surround this core with guys that can play D and play some semblance of offense.

    I expect the team to win 2 games.

    I expect Yao put a good fight with Shaq, outperforming Shaq 2 out of 6 games or 1 out of 5; Neutralizing him in 1-2 other games, being embarassed in 1.

    Expect the team to gain some experience under pressure, showcase their talent and skills for other teams

    Expect the management to assess the pieces and keep their minds open for off season dealing

    Expect Steve to play 3 good games and voted to All-star starter againg next year

    Expect Cat to validate his status of defense stopper (Artest of the West)

    Expect game summary from Clutch

    Francis is playing up to his cababilities, but Ming is not. I expect more from him. I expect Cato to never take another "jumper," I expect JJ to continue to play "solid" games, I expect Mobley to slow down Kobe (which he did in game one) and break out offensively before the series is over, and I would like to see more aggressive offense from MoT. Plus I would like the team to make more than one out of two freethrows. Geez, it's the NBA. Plus, get back to the smothering defense of game one. Thank you.

    I really feel that our team has played very well. Although yesterday we were pretty much blown out, we still hung in there until the end of the 3rd. Steve has definitely shown alot of heart, and has really busted it, Yao Ming is doing his best even though he's not excelling in every area. I think that to bash our team as far as our performance is gutless; we're hanging in there with a championship caliber team and we were just hoping to make the playoffs. If we keep it together, this is year one of a title contender.

    I expect a lot, but most important expectation is I hope management will finally make a wiser decision after all the series of games,who should stay and who should go!

    and to be honest,Steve's performance changed my mind,he can be the leader or at least be one of the core,when he plays under control,he is exactly the man who rockets want and need.with maturer Steve and bigger Yao,I can foresee bright future of Rockets!

    go!just go!do the best u can!
