I'm surprised Trump hasn't step forward to offer to take the vaccine. Talking up vaccines has been one thing he has done consistently.
He says he's immune now, so why would he? Actually, none of the maskless Moron Covid spreading fools should get the vaccine before those of us who have done all we can to stay safe and stop the spread. They should all be last on the list.
My understanding is the vaccine itself doesn’t give you guaranteed immunity. The goal is to get as many people as possible to take it to create “herd immunity” over the population. So, people more likely to run around without masks probably need to be getting it more than those of us who stay at home or are more responsible — as unfair as that may seem.
Yep but he should take it just to show it's safe since he's been saying he should get the credit for it. As for all those maskless idiots many of them might not take the vaccine anyway because so many of them also subscribe to the conspiracies. While I can understand just letting Darwinism take effect so that society is split between those who take the vaccine and are protected and those who don't the problem is that the goal of vaccination is ultimately herd immunity to control the disease. There are many who can't take vaccines because of underlying health conditions and also as long as there are still people who are susceptible to the disease the disease will not be under control. Also as a country if there are significant portions of our country that refuse to get vaccinated that means that many other countries won't deal with us. We are likely to see travel and other restrictions on US citizens. I know the PRC already puts imports through disease screenings and restricts them on the basis that goods could carry diseases. This would just give them an excuse to continue limiting buying US products. All of this will mean that we will have a much harder time recovering the economy and society from this disease.
They are gonna do that regardless. I want more protection, guaranteed or not. The sad part is, I would still need a mask for who knows how long, with millions of selfish jerks acting careless and reckless, and simply not giving a damn.

Good point about the portion of your post that I bolded. I suspect that we'll have to have official documentation declaring us vaccinated within a certain date prior to traveling to a place like the EU and/or the UK (for example). That we've been tested and are virus free, with active antibodies. That last is a guess on my part, but I assume the vaccine would produce detectable antibodies, in other words, evidence that we're virus free . . . protecting the country we are going to and being protected from getting it ourselves and bringing it back here. Those who are determined to go down the Rabbit Hole with trump and refuse to be vaccinated will very likely be unable to travel to, for example, the vast majority of Europe, to countries like Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia and to many others. Those busy today trumpeting the lunacy trump spews, as well as that put out by his sycophants working hard to curry his favor are in for quite a surprise when they try to travel internationally over the next couple of years, in my opinion. Those glued to the major echo chambers like Fox News, Newsmax, One America "News" Network and the like, who add their own embellishments, their own lies to the lies repeated endlessly by trump? If they think that being able to travel freely to other advanced countries, as well as those that are not, while refusing to get vaccinated, to wear masks, and the other logical things trump has them ludicrously pissed off about are going to get a shock, in my opinion. We're planning on going to the Netherlands in the Spring of 2022, and probably a couple of other countries as well. Hopefully, that'll be possible. We'll see. Being vaccinated and having the proper documentation addressing COVID-19 will be just as necessary for us as a passport, in my opinion. Certainly in that time frame.
Scary stuff. Over 218,000 new cases today too. This pandemic is raging just like anyone with half a brain knew it would be with the do nothing GOP and Trump stance. With vaccines months away for most of us these incompetents better start enforcing stricter mandates or God help you if you need to go to a hospital. Those guys like @bigtexxx scoffed at me when I said this would happen months ago. Maybe they knew it would, but supporting Trump was all they really cared about. It wasn't hard to see how this whole stupid GOP scoff at science and rally the cult in defiance of lockdowns & masks stance would play out. The days of modern medicine and science compared to the days of the Spanish flu are significantly different. All it takes is a dumbass in charge of a country and a party kissing his butt to let something like this happen in this day and age. They saw what happened in Italy and sat back watching it unfold here. The signs, the science, the knowledge of how deadly it was were just truths they conveniently ignored, in their greedy heartless minds.
