He's not playing behind stars in LA, he's playing behind Bev who is constantly injured. He got to start in 6 of his 17 games there last season. He'll get likely get 20+ minutes per game again this season. Regardless of whether we are contenders, we can't force guys like Jackson or Batum to sign with us, they willingly signed with the Clippers for their own reasons. The Lakers wanted Batum too. Why didn't they get him? Because he's a free agent and he decides where he goes, not his suitors.
Never said anything about forced. You are assuming here. My question was based on the lack of interest from Rockets on vet players. That was the whole point of the post. Instead management has focused on low end free agents and the jerion move baffles me. There were no reports on the Rockets interest in Jackson either. It is just mind boggling to me.
You're right. I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. What teams were interested in Jackson? Because I'm not seeing any reports of interest from other teams despite a decent performance with the Clippers last season. Not all free agent pursuits are going to be reported. We took a look at Demarcus Cousins in July, but it wasn't reported until we signed him recently. He's clearly a vet and probably not the only one we reached out to.
Dunno man just seems as if there is no push or urgency to sign vets. But then again during Morey’s reign this was the exact approach. They got rivers, green, Faried all for cheap waiver pickups. And they signed House to a 2 way contract after calling him up from the Vipers. Also Hartenstein was signed to fill out the bench. The approach is consistent with years past In not using up MLE etc for vets unless they can get them for low (Melo, luc, cousins). We don’t know how much Reggie Jackson or other vets would cost but some guys like Kent bazemore got the vet Minimum. Then again these guys have more years than a sterling brown or Nwaba meaning more money at the vet min. Interesting.
Nope. Because I did not. Why are you so focused on that particular conversation? Why does it mean so much to you?
I think I would have taken chance on Zhaire Smith over Jerian Grant. Similar size (6'3) but better defender with longer wingspan (6'10), catalytic first step/off the bounce and plays way above the rim (42" max vert). Excellent finisher, rim protector and very good switching 1-4. Very good BBIQ. Similar 3PFG% - 37% But not a true PG ... yet. Still only 21 and his athleticism is off the charts. Fits perfectly into the young uber run jump freaks that Stoner is bringing in.
warmly welcome the new starting PG jerian grant, since wall will miss half the games and be on a minutes limit.
All the more reason for a SnT with Bulls for Shaq Harrison. And sign Jhaire Smith for vet min or even a 2 way.
