Defense is fun to watch, so is the backcourt on offense, let's see if the uh oh can keep it up in the second half
Good win. Deeky takes WAY too many bad shots. Wondering if Mills reaggravated his ankle as he only played a couple of minutes.
Nice win against a ranked opponent. We controlled from start to finish other than a stretch in the second half due to some questionable calls by the refs and Jarreau losing his cool. As talented as he is he sure does stupid stuff at times. Someone needs to teach him how to dunk. There were at least a couple of times he did not finish at the rim. Once Millls gets back to 100% we are going to be loaded at guard. If the covid doesn't get in the way it is going to be fun to see who emerges as the leader of the team this year. Achilles heel - wish we had a little more depth at F/C. It seems that because the way we play and the way they officiate college basketball our bigs have a tendency to get in foul trouble.
I've seen some of the rebounding/defensive drills and routines they do in practice. Oh boy it isn't pretty. These dudes go at it. It's no wonder these teams have been one of the clear cut best in rebounding year after year. UH might already move inside the top 10 after just the first week
Coogs are really good, but hey need to learn to handle pressure defense. It was a problem last year that has carried over.
As to Yolo's point about rebounding. Sampson has a drill that he's had for yrs where they put a cone over the rim so there's no way the ball goes through the goal. The ball bounces at crazy angles once it hits the cone and it gets them to watch the flight of the ball (and from where the shot was taken) so they get into a habit of anticipating where the ball may go once it hits the cone but more importantly the desire to go get it and they better DAMN well go get it or they will not see the court playing for Sampson. It's a brutal drill but it's one of the main reasons Sampson's team are good rebounding teams (not just defensively but offensively as well).
He’ll be a Rocket before you know once again after he wins a national championship. You can bet your ass on that
I thought so for this last coaching search. I’m glad it didn’t happen, but I fully expected him to be coaching the Rockets this year. He’s a phenomenal coach, I’m sure he will have plenty of opportunities if he wants one.
