From all the videos I have seen on Tate: 1) Crafty around the rim much like Harden (Harden 1 inch taller) and like Ron Artest uses body to shield off defender by initiating and absorbing contact. Strong enough to get his shot over. 2) Uses the rim well to help prevent the shot blocker from getting a clear block. 3) Good at back door cuts along the baseline. 4) Good at receiving the pass at corner/elbow of the free throw line and slashing to basket. Cutter. ______________________________________________________________ Leaps well off the two (double) leg take off in finishing strong with slash to basket. I’ve noticed Rockets are collecting players that can not only spot shoot but cut / slash to rim: House, Nwaba, Sterling Brown, Caboclo, Wood, Tate goes with Silas offense imo. As you have PnR action getting the attention..... players with cut / slash to basket and finish. Porzingis/Doncic each had a high USG%. Just don’t think the Mavs had the slashers-cutters the Rockets are accumulating here in Houston. Having said that about Tate.....I don’t know if the minutes are there for him yet. Defense being a question?
Here is some of the Dallas offense last season: PnR (Ball Handler):............frequency...................NBA percentile......... Doncic......................................46.3%...............................89.4 Seth Curry................................23.2%...............................88.7 Courtney Lee (24 gms)...........10.4%...............................99.0 T Hardaway.............................19.0%................................78.1 J Brunson.................................33.7%...............................72.0 Justin Jackson..........................6.9%.................................60.3 PnR (Roll-Man):......................frequency...................NBA percentile......... Kleber...........................................25.7%.............................92.2 WCS...............................................45.3%.............................93.5 T Hardaway....................................2.1%..............................77.4 D Powell........................................27.0%.............................69.4 Porzingis.......................................15.6%.............................65.4 Isolation:....................................frequency....................NBA percentile......... Doncic..............................................15.0%............................81.8 C Lee................................................11.5%...........................100 Hardaway..........................................6.4%.............................45.1 Safe to say the Rockets will continue with Isolation plus Pick-n-Roll. I did not look up Mavs cutters or Put Backs.......just the PnR / Isolation point of attack. As it pertains to Tate......well there is a pecking order in front of him that he has to overcome: Eric Gordon McLemore Sterling Brown House Tucker Nwaba for touches outside of Harden, Westbrook, Wood, D Cousins.
I think he may get playing time during regular season games and even win a few for us, but I can't imagine the Rockets posting him up, which is most of his offense. If we do post him, then I can almost guarantee that will cease in the playoffs or against the Lakers, he'll have 10 shots blocked in a single game. Can you imagine him going against AD or Lebron in the post? I hope they can find a role for him... maybe he just keeps PJ fresh for the playoffs, and falls out of the rotation during certain series where the matchup is bad. Hopefully I'll have to eat these words!
He defends very well inside and is a good defender on the perimeter on switches. He is a good athlete, very physical and uses his body very well. He rebounds well and works hard. A lot of his success is going to come down to his ability to hit open perimeter shots and pass the ball. He is 6’4” with a 6’9” wingspan. For comparison purposes Draymond Green is 6’5” and has a 7’1” wingspan. Tate will likely play the 3/4 (mostly 4) with the Rockets and in order to overcome his lack of height, he has to use his body and punish defenders from 3 and finishing on put backs.
That's a great video. I doubt many of us have been able to see Tate's games last year so it's nice to see his strengths and weaknesses. I like that he can finish strong inside using his body and good footwork. Roco and PJ are good shooters but couldn't attack the rim to save their lives last season. I hope his outside shot is on point to give him those kinds of opportunities to attack. Hoping he's a nice rotation player because we need as many as we can get.
Maybe I'm old skool 6'4" (Tate) is usually the height for a 2 guard. SF / PF should be like 6'6" - 6'10. Draymond being undersized center is more of an anomaly. (a la chuck hayes). --- If Cousin is healthy and starter material, I would consider moving our Tucker into SF position. He could be the lockdown 3&D SF that Battier/Ariza were before him. Russ - PG Harden - SG Tucker - SF Wood - PF Cousin - C --- If Tate gets minutes, SG/SF maybe.
When I looked up Brodric initially there was barely anything on him online, I’m not 100% he actually exists. I highly doubt he makes the cut, I’ve no idea where they plucked him from. I haven’t looked into Queen yet, Mason Jones is my next vid and if I have time/if there is enough footage I will look at Queen too
BT is a freak. And he is the most skilled and best defender of all the young athletic freaks that Stone signed IMO.
Aren't you that guy from twitter that tries to pretend to be a writer, but you do stuff like call Harden "fat"? Yeah, you're not gonna make it with those tactics in the writing world. Feigen doesn't come out calling people "fat" like you do. It's unprofessional. It doesn't matter if it's the little "funny" thing people do on clutchfans. If you're trying to be legit, write in a legit way. Calling players fat is highly unprofessional and your intent doesn't matter. Defending your words on twitter by saying "read the rest of my tweets" (which doubled down and called Harden fat yet again) doesn't work. Write better. Even if it's short tweets. That was beneath you if you want to be something considered professional.
Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning didn’t they? Leave the unsolicited writing advice to yourself, I don’t recall throwing you a peanut. For anybody interested, Harden is in incredible physical shape, works harder than anybody in the league and he also has a fat tummy which brings me absolute joy. Watching him drop 40 on the rest of the league on a nightly basis with a dad bod is a great, great pleasure.
