Also I still think you are confused based on your framing here.

The fleet average is for all vehicles combined, electric and combustion. So all the electric vehicles in the fleet will offset all the 30mpg vehicles in the fleet where it will average out to 50 mpg. It's a rather reachable goal. Hell, it still leaves room for manufacturers to still make fuel chugging combustion performance cars.

Ford still has room to produce their Coyote V8 even with the 50 mpg average regulation.

Their effort to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions? What kind of idiots don't support those efforts?

I can see a world in 20 years where Tesla gets absorbed into other companies. In this world, there is a massive adoption to EV that even Tesla can't keep up with.

That said, your response reminds me a bit during the 20's of debates between horses and motorcars. Pretty much any well aware person knew the winner. However there was a big concern about vehicle infrastructure such as roads and fuel.

And here we are, talking about the same semantics. The hard part is done. Proving that EV's can be built in mass numbers. The bigger question is the economic impact of using almost all EV components.

Lithium mining also caries a large negative environmental impact. We are going to have to eventually also move on from li-ion.

You do know that politicians run against environmental issues and people vote for them right?

Do you live in a vacum that air tight that you dont know that?

I don't think there's really any debate here .... EV's are the future of transportation. It's a matter of increasing their range and or charging speed ..... making them as convenient as ICE's are today with a 5 minute fill up.

As for the economics .... that's another story. Some jobs will be lost and others created ....
