Cool! That means 2.5 left to spend before TF blows a 4th year in a row of not capitalizing on Harden’s best years because: money, while he mocks GS for being willing to spend. Or this year is going to be different when TF has less money than the last 3 years. Um, yay? If I were Harden, or WB, I’d want out too.

I could be reading it wrong, but this looks to have them as OVER the tax threshold by a little more than $2 million with a luxury tax bill of $4.8 million due at seasons end.

 

Losing RoCo hurts, but that just tells me that they're not thinking about next year. I still think this thing gets blown up unfortunately. Still, I've been thru one cycle like this before and I hope that Stone finds his inner Morey and discovers a superstar.

I wouldn’t say not a contender. Time will tell. Some spots are of concern such as backup PG and maybe another wing and big. There are still serviceable players out there to be had. I’m expecting to see signings this week.

OP is just saying that the actual roster moves look pretty good right now and I agree.

Harden and Russ aren't traded yet (and we don't know what the return will be if/when they get traded).

Losing Morey sucks but Stone looks very competent so far.

MDA got completely outcoached in the playoffs. We had to try something else.

 

I don’t view anything beyond the Covington-Wood trades as being significant. Outside of that move, it’s just a bunch of lottery tickets, and you hope 1 or 2 of them work out.

So if we are evaluating the offseason on just Covington for Wood and 2 mid-mid/late 1st round picks, that’s definitely a solid A.

Otherwise, I’d call it incomplete. After PJ, we don’t have anyone that can play the 4 for extended stretches, and we don’t have a quality 4th guard. To me, the basics of this team are the same, outside of now we have a real stretch 5. Other than that, we still look like an ISO heavy team that has 2 stars that don’t fit together.

The wording is confusing. It reads “Houston will enter the luxury tax” then says $2.5 million below. Are they in the tax now? Or below it. Looking at the numbers, I still see them as $2.5 million in to the taxable salaries.

 

We were 2.5m below with 6 roster spots to fill... that’s why he said “will enter”. The tweet is from a week ago, before a handful of the recent transactions were finalized. Most of those roster spots are filled (eg, Tate)

As of now, we’re into the tax. The question will be if we stay there.
