I think this hits at the paradoxical nature of progressive identity politics. More often than not these minority groups are more socially conservative than the white majority — certainly in terms of their in-group dynamics.

 

Wait.... must of the people interviewed in that video have absolutely no problem with Latinx. Did you even watch it?

 

Exactly. It was a good video. Most people interviewed really didn’t seem to have a strong dislike of any of the terms. Hispanic, Latino, Latinx. Most people were okay with any of the above.

I think the title of this thread is fake news.

 

The vast majority of people in that original video had absolutely nothing negative to say about Latinx.

And good for finding a subsequent video with "one dude".

 

The bigger issue was stigmatizing one European language apart from the others, first to confiscate Western land, then to rationalize quasi-colonial trade and strategic relationships in our own hemisphere, and finally to sidestep civil rights enforcement.

 

Funny that the first person who I know who objects strongly to LatinX is a leftwing Latina born and raised and still living in the Bronx who strongly objects to the term. She is heterosexual so maybe that is an issue?

 

This is the problem with 24 hour media. They run out of **** to talk about and get aggro over.
