I won't be a bit surprised if HeyPee comes out on top with this one. I WANT him to be right. GIVE ME DEFENSE! I want long wingspans, quick defensive players, guys that will do whatever it takes. If we do end up with a SF I pray that it is Battier.
PG - a 3rd PG is fine because it is such an important position for us. We took on Colson because Rudy said he didn't want to move Cuttino from shooting guard in the event Francis or Mooch couldn't play. (with Steve's on court gymnastics he tends to twist ankles a lot) SF - I think Langhi is going to produce next year. Don't have much of anything to back that up but that hasn't ever stopped me from running my mouth. Front Court - HP said it.
I was siding with HPee on this one, so that is why I didn't take the bet. But now the rules have changed. I'm in. Posts counts be damned, I think we go for the big men and not the small forwards. HP, how do we do the matching up? Maybe have an arbitrator decide who gets to change whom's moniker? ------------------ I always thought "With my talent, it's only a matter of time before I'm discovered". Now I think "With my talent, it's only a matter of time before I'm found out".
behad, cool note though, the bet is a 3rd string PG vs a new SF. I think it is a foregone conclusion that we want to add big men. Also, this is not exlusively a draft day bet. The bet cannot complete until opening day, since it is very conceivable the Rox take best available athlete, only to package him later for established beef, ala Davis for Bender.
This quote didn't hit me earlier. Add it to the fact that the team still has Walt and I'm not too sure I'm in on this bet anymore... (or at least from this side). Dream/K. Johnson Mo/Bradley Shandon??? Who cares, the team still has Walt/Bull/Langhi and can sport Mobley/Francis/Moochie. Mobley Francis Will drafting Bradley and overpaying Dream and Mo be the significant moves of this summer? Damn. Is the alternative merely: Cato Webber Shandon? Mobley Francis/Mooch I think we have more money than that (probably 16-17M in cap). But we also have KT still... agghghghg they'll draft a SF. I'm dizzy. Clutch, can you get us the view from the battle room? ------------------ women love me, fish fear me.
Man I'm on the fence once again. For like half the season everyone's been saying Langhi has this bright future and he'll have serious playing time next season, I don't see how that could happen if we go out and draft another small forward. So that makes me lean towards the HP side, but I can't think of who the rockets would choose at the 13th pick that's not a small forward. We don't need a backup PF, thats Kenny Thomas, maybe a center. With Anderson going away (probably), we'll need to draft another guard to take his spot. The Rockets have been building Langhi up as having a great future with them, I don't see why they'd go out and draft another SF to go ahead of him. Then again they might go out and sign a FA Small Forward. I want to get some of this betting action, I'll pick a side in a few days... My name's cool though, so you guys better think of some sweet replacements. Not that I think I'd lose the bet or anything... ------------------ [This message has been edited by Band Geek Mobster (edited May 17, 2001).]
Heychuckie I think I'll take the bet, but let me hold off a couple weeks to see how things look for re-signing Moochie. I liked Colson the end of last year for a 3rd PG, but undoubtely if we make a full blown run at C-webb then Moochie may leave. If Moochie stays I feel confident we won't need a 3rd PG, especially via the draft since we have had fairly good luck via the CBA (Moochie & Colson). So let me stall here for awhile to see how things shake out!

vj23K this team, man...I'm talking about this team! You know, the team that had no starting SF last half of the season. besides, stay out of this unless you want to bet me...
I'm with heypartner on this one. The fact is were in desperate need of size, bulk, height. This fact should be slapping every Rocket fan upside his talent scouting head. Theres no way the Rockets go small, first. ------------------
heyhedgemybets hey guys, we are going to have to pick sides soon. We can't wait to see things pan out. It is already enough we know Shandon will opt out. Crisco and I originally made this bet in February. We definitely must pick before draft day. Anyone want to suggest a deadline?
HP I got to bet against you. If Langhi starts we are definitely in trouble. No way is he our starter next year. ------------------
HeyP I am in with you. Maybe you could get a list going that shows who's on which side of the bet. CK ------------------ CC.Net Sim Homepage For stats, standings and team information. [This message has been edited by Castor27 (edited May 18, 2001).]
guys, my bet is not about Langhi starting. Man, no wonder there are so many lawyers in this world. The bet says unseat Langhi as 2nd-3rd string SF. Hell, that is just the short version to keep the rules readable. If we get someone projected for more minutes than Langhi next season, starter or not, I lose. As of now, Shandon is the starter, and Walt is the backup, and Mobley slides over in 3 guard line-ups with Moochie and Stevie. No where did I say Langhi has to start. He is simply a barometer of proof whether or not upgrading the 3 spot was a priority. Why do we keep reading more into the bet than there is. Quit adding to the bet. That said, Floyd I will close that last loop-hole you said about "what if Langhi is traded." New addendum to the bet...with revised wording to deemphacize Langhi. <font size="1">SF is not top priority...A 3rd String PG will make the team over adding someone projected ahead of Langhi for next season. Come Nov 1st... 1. If a 3rd PG is not on the roster, I lose my moniker, or 2. If a new SF projects for more mins than Langhi, I lose, or 3. If Langhi is traded or cut, I lose. This is unlikely, but we don't want any loop-holes. 4. But, if a 3rd PG makes the roster, and there's no new SF projected ahead of Langhi, you lose your moniker. </font> NOTE: these are just the concise rules. The definition of "projected over Langhi" has been spelled out earlier in this thread. READ IT! I don't want any complainers. There MUST be undeniable proof come Nov 1st that any new SF is projected to receive more minutes than Langhi. We cannot discuss long term potential. That is NOT part of the game; it obviously can't be or the bet can't finish for years. Even High Schoolers who don't get more minutes than Langhi is a loss for you. Even Gasol if he stays in Spain for a year, is a loss for you. We will spell this out in another thread, eventually. But remembers, it cannot have any loop-holes, and he must be measurable come Nov 1st. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited May 18, 2001).]
Hold it, I must remind everyone of a stipulation about trading for NBA vets. Remember this bet is about SF is NOT top priority. Long version of #2 2. If a rookie SF projects for more mins than Langhi, or we trade for an NBA vet on the BBS's top 20 SF list, I lose. The original bet with CriscoKidd, and what was mentioned in this thread earlier, was that any trade for a SF must be about solidifying that spot for the longterm. No toss in players in a blockbuster trade count, or old vets like Kittles. So how do you measure that without loop-holes...easy, you make a list of all the NBA players you consider longterm solutions for a SF spot. Temporarily patching the spot with old vets doesn't count. heyp, sorry, should have chosen better words for my last post. I was trying to emphasise that I think SA will jet this summer. Neither Walt or Langhi will be ready for starter minutes, even if they shared them. With SA leaving, this will create a priority for a SF. And that SF, I believe, will get more PT than Langhi. Plus, I just love a friendly wager ------------------
don't make it too complicated Heypee. Don't want to scare off anyone they are either with Heypee or Crisco, choose sides now!! Mango-bot will moderate the bet and decides who won or lost. I say SF that will supplant Langhi now and in longterm will be here before a 3rd string pg will be. Heypee is just stupid. Take out your stupidity HeyFart, it smells! ------------------ snap crackle pop
Heypeanut, I'll follow Crisco. i think C and PF spots are the most needed, but I also think that the rockets won't be able to find a better center and the rockets sign Mo or Webber. This leaves me to think SF will be improved. ------------------
