Don't believe it. Jets....because of the amount of picks over the next 2 years...Fine. ATL? No, Jax? Hell, No. He has a ready-made young QB in Houston, the hardest thing to find in the NFL.
As far as ready-made QB..I agree. But it’s the amount of picks AND front office personnel that hurts the Texans.
Texans have Deshaun and a pretty big rebuild without picks, cap space, strong ownership and front office personnel. Still attractive but have to nail down an elite GM
Front Office BS is not an issue. The new GM will make his changes. The Texans are missing 2 picks in the next draft with extras in the later rounds. 2022 has all their picks.
Wonder if Lawrence’s camp would pull an Eli Manning. If there was ever a franchise you didn’t want to go to, the Jets would have to be at the top of the list.
There is absolutely no universe in which those openings are better than Houston's. Head coaching jobs are available for a reason; unless, you know, Andy Reid retires, you're dealing with a team that has issues, be it short- or long-term. There might be other considerations for Eric Bieniemy (money, location, previous relationships, etc) - but if he prefer another *football* situation.... he's not terribly bright. Nobody in that group has Deshaun Watson.
Joe Douglas knows what he's doing. They've already got the 2nd most needed position on offense filled. LT, Mims looked pretty good yesterday and they have a boatload of picks to fill in other holes. Plus they should be adding another high draft pick when they trade Darnold. Having a competent GM with Lawrence and a boatload of high draft picks makes the NYJ's a much more attractive place job than the Texans job.
Deshaun Watson is putting up performances now that are on par or even better than Luck. There are no surefire rookie QBs that automatically have NFL success. And given the type of QB that is currently taking over the NFL... i.e. - guys who can both read defenses amazingly at the line, and make something happen out of nothing if the play falls apart... teams are already re-evaluating the peripherals they're putting emphasis on. I guess they could always ask Dabo if he thinks Trevor is the Michael Jordan of football as he thought of Watson...
Lawrence being a star isn't a given since he's coming from the same Clemson offense that Watson came from. That offense while wildly successful in college does nothing to prepare a young QB for the NFL.
Easterby is irrelevant. He is not doing anything on football personnel-wise. I’ve heard his fate will be determined by the next GM.
2 National Championship games including one when they were underdogs in the semis and one national championship says Lawrence is just as good as Watson if not better.
Or the odds of one college producing two MVP-caliber starting NFL QB's are exceedingly rare and favors Lawrence not being as good as Watson. Anybody have any other college programs that pumped out two elite starting QB's this close to each other? Not saying its not possible... just that I'd be more attracted to the QB who has already proved he can succeed in the NFL vs. one that will still have to prove it, regardless of the college stats. Also, most NFL coaches will not outlast a QB that doesn't live up to the hype. Their job will immediately be tied to the success/failure of the QB development from day one.
