I've always wondered how people get swept up in cults but watching it on such a massive scale has been fascinating.

 

He is, kind of into national attention, but much less needy than Trump obviously. I've always thought Obama liked being a celebrity and that he had a very high opinion of himself. He's not directly obnoxious about it, but it's pretty dramatic to release your 700-page (!) book right after a hotly contested election. Books take years of planning for publishing companies, so this has been a plan for a very long time. Bush retreating to doing some paintings or Carter working on habitat for humanity are obviously very different and more quiet ways to be a former president.

I think Obama's plan was to make a giant f-you to Trump with this erudite study of how to be a president, contrasting the total chaos and insecurity of Trump's four years. Those two have really gone at each other since the stupid birther movement. It's no accident that Obama brings that up in a lot of his ongoing interviews.

How people hate a decent, family man like Obama really eludes me, but there it is. Fox did make him out to be a devil for 9 straight years, starting really in 2007, so there's that.

 

His name is Barak Obama. That may have something to do with it.

They cannot abide the stark contrast that Obama, as a black man, provides. It enrages them.

 

I want to not believe that, but it must be true for some of his haters. I also think America has turned against brainy people, starting in the 1990's. Part of what AM radio hath wrought. Obama having "professor speak" drives a lot of people nuts, separate from or in combo with his skin color. Maybe it's doubly enraging to have a black man speaking like a pointy-headed professor all the time.

I hope people watch the Kimmel interview. The parts about his family are pretty funny.
