... and yet, half of the republican party has bought trump's lies hook line and sinker. I guess the good news... the other half of the republican party might actually be sane, and respects democracy?
Trump has shown how potentially vulnerable our system is if people don't do the right thing. We definitely need to find a way to strengthen norms but if people choose not to believe in them even if we strengthen laws might not be enough.
Trump is winning the 24 hour news cycle with the fact free "I will not concede" marketing narrative. The MSM is showing its incompetence again, to no one's surprise.
After a very angry zoom call where there were accusations of corruption and one of the canvassers pointed out how the one's holding up Wayne county (where Detroit is) had no problem certifying Livonia county (one that is 95% white) even though they acknowledged there were more problems in Livonia than Wayne.
Automatic quick recount improved after the 2001 election. Faithless / rogue elector was a concern and is resolved for now with the SC ruling after the 2016 election. We get better as we go on... if we care about getting better and protecting our democracy. Biden admin can try (and the GOP congress, if they maintai control will try to shoot it all down). I still have faith After the 2020 election... Seems clear criteria for election result certification are now needed over trust in people to do the right thing. Seems mail-in ballot will be a new popular option going forward. Again, clear criteria that keep it secure AND allow all voter's vote to count. "Curing" as standard method. Quicker counting is needed. I'm sure many other lessons learned for those interested in improving voting system and democracy. Machine security is a constant concern and while there is much awareness after 2016, not much has changed. How about an actual independent trusted certification process for the machine and some minimum requirements such as only physical access and paper trail for all votes. At the end of the day, if we want a more robust democracy, we can get a more robust democracy. The battle is that some do not want that - GOP members who think they are on the decline. Maybe they should look at the 2020 election results and note that some growing population (Latino) over generations tend to reflect more of the traditional conservative / liberal split. They are so far betting on an assumption that future population is more liberal. That's a bad assumption and really, doesn't gel with history or human behaviors. But if they keep going down this road, either they eventually kill democracy and win or get destroyed. There is a better path for them.
I missed the MI certification drama last night but just now seeing it. WOW... I knew they would try it but it's still shocking to see that they are actually going through with at least trying to overthrow an election by invoking the 12th amendment House vote to try and put Trump back in power. Pathetic, and those Republicans should be shamed for generations. Truly a stain on our Democracy that'll live on throughout history.
Also Biden's comments yesterday about not wanting to have his presidency wrapped up in Trump investigations I found to be very purposeful. I think there is growing concern that Trump is going nuclear and they are using the media to try and talk him off the ledge and get him to leave office without issue. Trump is simply not well in the head right now, and is truly dangerous. Whether Biden wants to prosecute him or not is sort of a side conversation to the point of him putting that message in the media to indirectly get to Trump to try and get him to step aside peacefully. But I don't think Biden will have the power to stop what is inevitable which is Trump being prosecuted which might already be happening with sealed indictments.
trump and the republicans were partially to blame for delays by not allowing the pre-election day counts of mail-in ballots in a number of states.
I think the more nuanced perspective is that Biden will let the DoJ prosecute who they see fit. I would not be surprised if the DOJ takes a scorched earth approach to Trump, since Trump with intent abused the DoJ while he was President.
In the absence of any real proof but simply the insane ramblings of the worst, most dishonest president of all time... In the future, any election will have this kind of reaction...
I jsut want to say, 2 weeks later, go back and read pages 15-20 of this thread lol. https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/election-day-2020.308180/page-15
