    @Will

My theory is that Morey's fate was already sealed and that going to another team that's not Houston (defacto Team China because of Yao and Les) was the best compromise for the NBA, Silver, China and the Rockets to save face.
There's a major Chinese presence in Houston for business other than basketball.

And that any failure in the playoffs would mask the main reason for his 'departure' from Houston.
Nobody in China cares about Philly unless they like Rocky movies.
Tilman needs China money flow that was baked in his purchase of the Rockets.

Yes I agree the tweet was the first domino, Rockets have too much business connections in China.

The China thoughts have merit but the issue is more NBA support for Daryl rather than the Rockets. The fact that he is now Phili's Prez cannot sit well with them.
Having said that, not having Daryl as our GM anymore probably eases China's anger toward Houston in the sense that "he is not our liability anymore".

i think it was before the tweet that morey knew and then just half-assed everything. he lost a lot motivation once he knew tilman wasn't willing to spend even an extra $1m to make that historic 2017-2018 team even better.

Harden reportedly wants to go the Nets with KD & co. The irony of a destination team where the owner is Chinese.

Nothing against Tsai personally, speaks more about not wanting to be with Tilly (his cheapness and maybe trump connections)

Morey is calculated and WICKED SMART - I think he wanted out from under Tillman - and whether he knew it was going to cause an issue or not as soon as the Westbrook trade was forced on him, he was maneuvering to leave.

I know. If Morey left HOU partially because of the Taiwan's tweet, then dominos fall as direction is no longer suitable for Harden, Harden leaves to a team with a Chinese owner (abeit different team). DM's ex main guy Harden could end up on a Chinese (mainland) team. That's irony.

Honestly I don't believe in the entangle conspiracy web strings, as shown how ludicrous some of it can be.

    Morey didn't tweet about Taiwan.

Morey is the Sixers President, why would he influence Harden to go the Nets?

    my bad, HK

It's Morey leaving that set the dominos of Harden leaving HOU. Doesn't matter where DM ended up. The destination just happens to be with Tsai.

    I understand your Harden argument.
But this thread is about Morey.

Specifically knowing that Morey's fate was done when the China backlash came and that it was a given that he was leaving the Rockets.
Most people forgot about this event because so much stuff has happened and then we lost to the Lakers and looked terrible.
